Dmitry Guberniev: “We must always be ready for criticism. Dmitry Guberniev Dmitry Guberniev interview

D Mitry Guberniev is a famous sports commentator and journalist. In 1995 he graduated with honors from the coaching department of the Russian Academy of Physical Culture, then - Institute for Advanced Training of Radio and Television Workers.

In 1997 - sports commentator on the TVC channel, then presented sports news on the Vesti program on the Rossiya TV channel. In 2002-2005 - co-host of the channel “Good morning, Russia!” Presenter of the programs: “Vesti Sport”, “Sports Week with Dmitry Guberniev”.

Dmitriy, RWorking on television requires a special schedule. Describe your standard work day: where does it start and when does it end?

E If I work in news, I usually arrive at the studio at two o'clock and leave after midnight. The same applies to that Monday, when I host the “Sports Week with Dmitry Guberniev” program. If we talk about business trips or working on reports that take place in the morning, then I arrive an hour or two before the broadcast and leave immediately after.

How do you prepare for the broadcast?

I go to see the track at the event site (if we are talking about skiing and biathlon). I communicate with athletes and coaches, as well as the film crew. Of course, I also use Internet sources to search for information, but nothing can replace live human communication.

R Please tell us about the specifics of working as a TV commentator?

The most important feature - no need to load 50 kg bags of flour at night. From my point of view, this is a fairly easy type of activity, compared, say, with the work of highly qualified doctors or aircraft designers. Although working live is, of course, more difficult than other journalistic work.

Lately you also you host various entertainment programs... Who are you more of: a sports commentator or a showman?

First of all I journalist and sports commentator. As for showmanship and corporate events, this is just part of the earnings...

...Or a hobby?

Can and so to speak. But when I conduct concerts in the Kremlin, everyone knows perfectly well that this two-meter-tall guy is a sports commentator. I am proud to belong to what I consider to be a great profession. The Soviet school of commentators was clearly the most outstanding school in the world, and I am glad that I am able to preserve its traditions.

Who can you call yours? mentors?

If we talk about correspondence teachers, of course, these are brilliant commentators who worked in the State Television and Radio system. I listened to them avidly: Nikolai Ozerov, Kote Makharadze, Anatoly Malyavin, Georgy Surkov. When I came to TVC, Alexander Vladimirovich Koltakov, the host of the “Evening Moscow” program, Nikolai Nikolaevich Ozerov’s favorite student, gave me a lot.

And Vasily Alexandrovich Kiknadze - can you consider him one of your teachers?

Certainly. Vasily Alexandrovich was my supervisor for a long time. He is an exemplary boss, he gave me a lot as a colleague, teacher, senior comrade. Now he heads the powerful structure of the ANO Sports Broadcasting, we keep in touch with him and continue to communicate.

Dmitriy, and if you had subordinates, what leadership style would you follow?

Oh, I'm the luckiest man in the world who doesn't have to boss around! Rukovo childish is not for me.

In one of your interviews you said that you are a “strong” commentator. WhatDo you understand this concept?

"Strong"- an absolutely wonderful word that came into use in our editorial office just a few years ago. It characterizes a personwho does his job well.

T Is being a TV presenter the pinnacle of your career or a prospect for further growth?

A televisionin principle - a promising thing. What does top mean? I am proud that I have done a lot, and I understand how little I have done. There is still a sea of various events ahead related to sports in our country and not only - these are the Olympics in London, the Universiade in Kazan, the Olympic Games in Sochi, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup...

What career achievement do you consider most significant and why?

The most significant achievement is when you, unable to hold back your tears of emotion, comment on the victory a well-known athlete from Russia, you feel your involvement in the event, you understand that you are a kind of transmission link of his victory and at that moment you feel happy. I have had the opportunity to experience such moments many times.

Did you manage to implement your dreams?

At the moment yes, but there is a lot of unfulfilled things ahead. For example, I have never performed on stage at the Sovremennik Theater (laughs).

If we talk about dreams, thanks to my profession I became friends with Alexander Shirvindt and Mikhail Derzhavin. I performed at the opening of the season of the Moscow Academic Theater of Satire, congratulated Mikhail Derzhavin at the recent anniversary, standing on the same stage with the masters of theater and cinema! It costs a lot! If I weren't a famous commentator, I wouldn't have this opportunity.

And just recently, when I met Galina Volchek, she happily said that she was watching my programs. P After her words, I want to continue to do my job better and better!

By the way, regarding the connection between art and commenting. In Vancouver, at the closing of the Olympic Games, I was able to comment on the final performance of Nikolai Tsiskaridze and his colleagues. So I commented on the ballet.

Dmitry, you have been working as a television commentator for 14 years and have extensive experience in personal communication with athletes And. Isn't it time to write a book?

Such thoughts sometimes come to my mind. I think I’ll bring my work experience to 20 years, and then we’ll see. It’s difficult for me to organize myself in terms of writing, I even abandoned my blog, which I started last winter. You see, on the one hand, I’m a terrible lazy person, and on the other, I work all the time, I’m always busy with something, and I don’t have time for glamor, gloss, and the like.

A Have you thought about trying your hand as a producer or teacher of courses for journalists or TV presenters?

PI periodically give lectures at various educational institutions and in some fairly large companies. I'm an average teacher, but if you start teaching more substantively, you can achieve success in it.

B of course! I have experience that I can pass on to the younger generation and even adults. As for some kind of production work, to be honest, it makes me smile! Me as a producer - it would be like an endless ellipsis...

Opportunityget a jobDo all candidates have television or is work in this area available only to a select few?

Nand television, like any other field, comes from different people from different places. For example, I literally came from the street. The competition took place and ended up on TV.

The doors here are open to everyone, to journalists, philologists, representatives of other professions, the main thing is desire! Our country has a huge number of all kinds of television and radio channels. I believe that you can realize yourself, you need to look for your chance and believe in your star.

IN At one time, many, many years ago, I firmly decided that the day would come when I would get on television. Nobody believed me, many friends laughed at me. Now they don’t even want to remember about it, I remember (laughs).

What advice would you give to those who dream of a career? TV journalist?

Learn Be honest, don’t be afraid of anything and be a grateful person, because - my firm conviction - if you go over your head, you will never achieve success.

In your opinion, what m the secret to a successful career?

Need to work! Just work and that's it!

Dmitry Guberniev- big man. I mean, he's a big man. Large in stature. When you walk next to him, the top of your head is at the level of his chest. Perhaps we should all seem like children to him. Great in terms of the reaction of others. For some time we could not enter the Main Building: people blocked the passage and silently stared at the guest. And to the phrase of the people pressing behind us: “Well, why are we standing?” thoughtfully answered: “What are you saying, this is Guberniev...”

Dmitry Guberniev is a famous sports commentator, journalist, and TV presenter. We recently met with him and decided to find out more about his life.

- Dmitry, who are you anyway?

Here Nikolai Ozerov, a great commentator, when asked: “What is your profession?”, always answered: “I am an artist.” Who are you? Who do you identify with?

Well, Nikolai Nikolaevich, in addition to being an outstanding athlete, multiple champion of the Soviet Union in tennis, also had an artistic education. And he himself was born into an artistic family. So he had every right to call himself an artist. I am his devoted fan, I studied his biography very carefully, I even caught him on the air.
And I am the Bremen musician. My motto in life: we bring laughter and joy to people!

- And How? Like?

Yes, I am generally a very happy person. I’m sitting here screaming, but they also give me a salary for this. You know how it turns out that “I support the national team for money” (laughs). Recently I have been living with such a split consciousness. There are a large number of fans who like me. And there are a small number of haters who write that they can’t stomach me in one form or another. But all this really gives me strength. To be completely honest, of course I feel feedback when communicating with the public and at various master classes in educational institutions. I have taught and continue to teach at many universities. Now I work at the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, and I’m thinking of working at the Russian State University of Social Sciences.

- How did you decide to become a commentator? Was it some kind of sudden “click” or a long journey?

And I don’t know how to do anything else (laughs). I always liked to talk, mostly in class. But I wanted to become a great athlete by rowing, but it didn’t work out. Then I thought that I still needed to finish the Institute of Physical Education, although at that time I was already thinking about the Faculty of Journalism. Only I still don’t have a journalism diploma. This is how I came to work as a commentator.

- And where do Bremen musicians learn about sports nowadays?

I entered the main physical education and sports university in the country; I was trained as a physical education teacher and coach. I graduated with honors, with only two B's. At school, I did worse because I knew where I would go, when I realized that I liked sports topics, I began to actively choose a specialization. Once at school they let me check my essay and find one mistake, I didn’t find it. It turned out that he wrote the word feeling without the “v”. Then I pulled myself together and upon admission wrote an essay without a single mistake. There was an interesting story, the topics were about a favorite coach, athlete and poet. I thought that I would write absolutely everything about the athlete and the coach, but I went and wrote about Nekrasov, I had a blast, and got a good grade. I was interested in studying, I didn’t party at all, in the early 90s life was very difficult, I had to work. I remember my student years with warmth and a smile. My whole life is connected with sports. I’m not a bad skier, Vladimir Kuzin once taught me. This is one of the most legendary skiers, just a king. I also took classes in speech technique and broadcasting skills. Like I said, I don’t have a degree in journalism, and I’m a lousy journalism teacher (laughs). In fact, as a practical person who works on television, I will always be happy to share my experience with everyone and tell some interesting stories.

- But if not a commentator or a sports journalist, then who?

Oh I do not know. I would probably become a mascot for people who go to basketball games, hockey games, you can even hang me on stilts (laughs). So they will close the television, I’ll go there, they’ll take me.

- What in life gives you the most pleasure?

Definitely communicating with people. In general, the main thing is people, we are strong people. Now I’m drawing attention to the moment of crisis in society, I believe that if we are a truly big, great country, then we need to pay attention to education and healthcare. For example, students of the current generation are actually the last who found or are catching teachers from that time. The Soviet system of physical education and training, in general, is not bad, and in this sense it is such an amazing time. Recently I have been enjoying communicating with young people. We have smart guys whose eyes sparkle. Even though I’m 41 years old, I’m actually 12 at heart (laughs). Do you know why? Because the happiest age was during the 1986 FIFA World Cup, then we played football from morning to evening.

- What television programs do you like to host the most?

Well, of course, biathlon. But I recently spoke with the management of the Match TV channel, and they said how long I will continue to host different shows, and whether I’m tired of it. But I’m not tired of it, on the contrary, I like it.

- There are many women among your fans, what is the most important thing about them for you?

This is the most important thing, that there are many women. After all, there are few men left in show business, only me and Basque (laughs). Yes, somehow the main thing is that women are generally better than men, women’s sports are better than men’s. You can't even compare women and men.

- How do you feel about women in male professions, for example, sports commentator?

In my favorite film “The Man from the Boulevard des Capucines” there is a scene where the wonderful actor Mikhail Svetin was sitting and talking to a parrot, and he said: “If you don’t give something to a woman, she will go and take it herself.” I hope I answered the question.

- What parting words can you give to people who want to work in the field of sports journalism?

First, “know the subject.” Secondly, don’t be shy to ask questions, don’t be shy to be funny. I’m not at all embarrassed to be funny, everyone always laughs at me, and that’s wonderful. I used to have a “Russian Team” program, which is what my colleagues and I didn’t do there, and even now, what we don’t do at biathlons.
And the rest, in theory, will come on its own.

Well, here we are waiting! The Biathlon World Cup starts today in Östersund, Sweden. The men will compete on the 20-kilometer individual race course. In Russia, these competitions can be seen on two channels. The broadcast will be recorded on the Sport TV channel, Dmitry Guberniev will comment on it for you, and Dmitry Terekhov will work live on Eurosport. Before the start of the season, both TV commentators shared their thoughts on the upcoming battles.

Dmitry Guberniev

In 1995 he graduated with honors from the pedagogical faculty of the Russian Academy of Physical Culture. Then he studied at the Institute for Advanced Training of Radio and Television Workers. Sports commentator for the Rossiya TV channel. Presenter of sports news in the news program "Vesti". Host of the Russian Team program. Winner of the 2007 TEFI Award.
Master of Sports in rowing.

Dmitry Terekhov

In 2000 he graduated from the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University.
Worked: TV channels AST, "Stolitsa", 7TV, newspaper "Soviet Sport".
At the Olympic Games in Beijing he commentated for Channel One.
Currently he is a commentator for the Sport TV channel.
- What do you expect from the upcoming season, how do you see the performances of Russian biathletes?

D.T.: Calm expectations, pre-Olympic season, it’s unlikely that the teams will change anything radically. Horses are not changed at the crossing. For men, the same people will compete for the World Cup - Norwegians, Russians and Germans. It will be interesting to look at the Germans; they have split. Michael Greis and Andi Birnbacher trained separately from the national team, but the qualities of the leader of the German national team do not allow us to hope that he will not be like himself this season. As for our team, there are some questions. Both Dmitry Yaroshenko and Maxim Chudov became philosophers in the off-season. Yaroshenko has reconsidered his views on the training process, Chudov is slowing down a little. The Norwegians have their main bets on Bjoerndalen, but Svendsen is also ready to fight the King of Biathlon this season. The Germans will dominate the women's field, and the Russians will try to compete with them, especially in the relay competitions. It will be interesting to look at our biathlon mothers who are finally returning this season. With all this, Ekaterina Yuryeva will remain the leader of our team. In the women's individual races, the circle of contenders for victory will be wide: it will include French, Norwegian, and representatives of other countries.

D.G.: Each race promises to be extremely interesting, given the approaching Olympics. We can highlight a number of the most important starts: the World Championships in Korea, as well as the pre-Olympic week in Vancouver. In Korea, our athletes performed with varying degrees of success last season; some were able to acclimatize quickly, while others found it difficult to adapt. Let's hope that the coaches have made the necessary conclusions and the team will approach the start in good shape. We need to perform successfully at the World Championships, but also start at a good level in Vancouver. I think that both men and women our athletes are capable of getting into the top three cups, but I’m not sure that anyone will be able to win the Big Crystal Globe. People have matured, but I think not this season. It will be interesting to look at Bjoerndalen, he recently suffered a stomach infection and was lying in bed, we will assess his readiness. For women, you can expect a lot from Olga Pyleva-Medvedtseva. The reserve that she had in training sessions should allow her to compete for high places. Zaitseva may not be so ready yet, but this is for now, what could be by the end of the season – we’ll see. At the moment, both teams - both men's and women's - are digesting the loads that were proposed by the coaches. The progress will be gradual, although strong results are not excluded at the first stage. Biathlon is not only functional, but also shooting.

.
- How do you personally prepare for the season and the upcoming report?

D.T.: A lot is being written about biathlon now, not only in RuNet, but also on German and Norwegian sites, we learn something directly from the athletes. Today during the broadcast we will try to establish a teleconference with Ekaterina Yuryeva, who will share her impressions. I think it will be interesting for the fans. In addition, we will definitely tell you about the track in Östersund and, in fact, what is happening there at the moment.

D.G.: I’m preparing seriously, I talked on the phone with coaches, today I’ll talk with Selifonov. I collected a lot of information not only about ours, but also about all our rivals. I’ll be honest: I’m upset that today’s broadcast will be recorded, but football is the number one sport, and Spartak is playing. I managed to miss biathlon, because it starts last of all the winter sports.

Do you consider yourself a lucky commentator for the Russian biathlon team?

D.T.: I know about the existence of such a concept. People who have been commentating on their sports for more than 10 years cannot be considered lucky or unlucky, since they have had both successes and failures. I have been commentating on biathlon for five years, starting with the World Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk. I commentated on the last World Championship from Östersund alone, and our team took three gold medals for the first time in a long time, so I can call myself somewhat lucky for our team!

D.G.: I think that all this is nonsense about luck. After I commented on the women's ski relay at the 2002 Olympics, when our team was not even allowed to start, I was called a terribly unlucky commentator. Therefore, I treat all these comments speculatively. But if our biathletes win a little more often during my comments, I will be only happy!
- Who besides you will comment on biathlon on your channel?

D.T.: As usual, Sergey Kurdyukov will comment. He will be given first choice, but given his busy schedule, he comments on many winter sports, I will replace him. Our fans on the forum sometimes joke that Sergei can sit down in the morning, put on a headset and comment on everything. At the same time, the quality of reporting will not decrease. Also, Andrey Kondrashov, who can be called our full-time commentator and specialist in the field of biathlon and cross-country skiing, will join the biathlon reporting.

D.G.: As far as I know, everything will remain the same: Alexey Popov, Roman Skvortsov and me. I hope that I will go to the World Championships in Korea - it seems that the decision has already been made.

From October 19 to 25, the program of the XV anniversary comedy film festival “Smile, Russia!” is taking place in Tula. Yesterday, October 19, Dmitry Guberniev was the presenter at the opening ceremony, and today he talked with students.

A master class from the famous biathlon and heavy music lover Guberniev gathered a whole audience of future journalists from our city. The meeting took place in the building of the Faculty of Humanities of Tula State University. Guberniev himself did not hide the fact that he never had a journalist’s education and achieved a lot in his career thanks to his determination and intelligence.
In addition, Dmitry was easy to communicate with, answered even the most intriguing questions and did not refuse anyone an autograph session.

- You should at least know who Vladimir Gruzdev is and who is the head coach of Arsenal football.

Once in 2002, at the Olympics in Salt Lake City, I was asked to fill a pause of 8-10 minutes that hung between broadcasts on the air. I looked at the list of planned events for the day and found the men's cross-country relay there. As a result, I began to tell the entire backstory of skiing so excitingly that when they started to stop me, I only got to 1980. Therefore, I always like to repeat that the head should not be empty.

— Do you know which of our athletes were among the best in the last century? Who are Lyudmila Pakhomova and Alexander Gorshkov? (The future journalists were silent, as if they were afraid to confuse Guberniev’s thoughts. As a result, Dmitry himself was confused. Then, smiling sweetly at a passerby in the window, who recognized the commentator and hardly believed his eyes right away, he continued).

Fame came to me unexpectedly. At the Slavic Bazaar, two girls approached me for autographs, and at that moment Stas Mikhailov was passing by. Well, let me just say it as a joke: “There are good artists, and then there are others like Stas Mikhailov.” It’s good that Stas understands jokes...

Irritation is a pleasant emotion. We must always be ready for criticism. It's a matter of taste. We work for smart people - this is an important guideline.

A columnist needs to pay a lot of attention to his reputation. One day Nikita Mikhalkov invited me to hold a traditional film festival. And many artists looked at me sideways then. But what was important to me was the reaction of Mikhalkov himself, who on the final day said: “You will now host the film festival every year.” By the way, Alla Surikova just said the same thing in Tula.

In the final segment of his master class, Guberniev quoted famous Russian commentators, talked about the sports projects of the Rossiya TV channel and remembered his childhood on Skhodnya. As soon as Dmitry finished his story, he immediately fell into the “net” of future “sharks of the pen”.

Questions gradually gave way to a photo session and autograph signing.

After which Dmitry left the audience, and the listeners spent a long time exchanging emotions from communicating with a man who worked at the Olympic Games and was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree.
