Julia Lipnitskaya

The life of figure skater Yulia Lipnitskaya changed dramatically after a series of successful performances in 2014 - at the Olympics in Sochi, the European Championship, the World Championship and the Grand Prix final in figure skating. The girl's sports career began to develop rapidly, in addition, Yulia began to receive commercial offers of cooperation.

We have collected the latest news from the life of 17-year-old figure skater Yulia Lipnitskaya.

Contract with Adidas

Yesterday, February 24, it was announced that Yulia Lipnitskaya became the face of the Adidas brand. The brand is releasing a series of videos called "I'm here to create", in which popular athletes talk about their path to victory.

In the video, Julia talks about her life: how she overcomes difficulties, goes beyond conventions and expresses herself in training and performances.

Coach change

In mid-December, it became known that Lipnitskaya had changed her mentor. The champion left her coach Eteri Tutberidze and went to the famous former figure skater Alexei Urmanov, Olympic champion in figure skating at the 1994 Lillehammer Games.

Progress

After the Olympic Games, fame fell upon Yulia, which is not so easy to deal with at the age of 15. Many media wrote that after a series of brilliant performances, the skater "starred" and began to behave arrogantly towards coaches and colleagues. It was also noted that after the victory in Sochi, Lipnitskaya's performances got worse and worse each time.

In November 2014, at the Cup of China Grand Prix, Lipnitskaya did not enter the awards ceremony. Many then condemned the act of the girl, who took only second place. Later, ISU press coordinator Tatyana Flade said that Yulia Lipnitskaya was at the hotel at the time of the award ceremony and did not know when the ceremony would take place. However, the act of the figure skater still caused a considerable scandal in the press.

The new season started for Julia not very well. At the Finlandia Trophy tournament, the Russian figure skater was the second, and the first place went to the Japanese Riki Hongo. At the first stage of the Grand Prix series - the Skater America tournament - the girl took sixth place. And in the final of the Cup of Russia, which took place on February 19 and 20, Lipnitskaya lost first place to Alena Leonova.

Nevertheless, coach Alexei Urmanov positively assessed Lipnitskaya's performance at the Russian Cup in Saransk.

My rating is positive. She is progressing. Takes it step by step. Everyone is worried. And I state the fact that Yulia copes with this excitement. I think that she has a very good dynamics. The girl was in a crisis, and today she is getting out of it,

Urmanov told the newspaper "Soviet Sport".

Now Yulia is preparing for the Cup of Tyrol competition, which will be held from 9 to 13 March in Austria.

Moving to Sochi

Olympic figure skating champion Yulia Lipnitskaya moved to Sochi at the end of 2015 to further develop her sports career. There were also rumors that the girl decided to change the location largely in order to get rid of her mother's guardianship. Julia does not miss training, but despite this, the skater also has free time, which she spends the way she likes.

And in an interview with the Figure Skating Federation, Yulia said that she had changed a lot during her career:

You know, sometimes I remember what I was, and it becomes funny myself. But I was small, no one really wanted to communicate with me. Only mom and coach. The rest didn't care for me. There is and is. And I answered the same, they say, I’m not up to you either and don’t come close to me. Now I am growing up and changing. Interest has awakened in me, respectively, and I am becoming more open. I talk to everyone all the time about something. It became much easier for me and in the group.

Personal life

Yuliya infrequently spreads in interviews about her personal life. However, the figure skater's fans managed to notice that the girl's status on the social network changed to "in love" in early December. In addition, Lipnitskaya quite often publishes photos of bouquets and gifts on her Instagram page (although these can also be gifts from numerous fans of the athlete).

Lipnitskaya does not reveal the identity of her chosen one, so one can only guess who won the heart of the skater.

Will not go on the ice, not only in the upcoming season, but in general, it was clear for a long time. The Federation knew about this back in April, but still pretends that this is a surprise and a sensation. The figure skater herself and her coach Alexei Urmanov remain silent.

Angela and Dimona. Why Lipnitskaya's career is over

Let's not get too emotional. She went to her goal with the help of her mother, stepping on the throat of all the desires and laws of physiology. She was fed with protein powder so that Yulia would not gain weight and could jump. She was persuaded, she was forced, she was begged, they decided for her - a common thing in the life of any teenager. At the insistence of her mother, Julia even left school for home schooling.

She won the Olympics in Sochi, demonstrating an excellent performance of two programs, one of which sunk into the soul of the whole world. Thanks to the red coat and Schindler's List, on February 10, 2014, Lipnitskaya woke up one of the most popular girls in the world. You can say that this is “just” a victory in the team tournament, but it was Lipnitskaya who brought our team the maximum number of points, and it is extremely difficult to skate your programs on the same emotional level again in a couple of days.

No one was particularly interested in what she did on the ice in technical terms, what were her previous programs. Everyone expected from her the continuation of miracles and the same emotions. After Sochi, a heavy burden of fame and a lot of money fell on Yulia Lipnitskaya. At the age of 15, it is difficult to resist temptations and force yourself to work further.

Yulia Lipnitskaya has never been the most technical figure skater of her generation. One of - yes. But she was convinced that she has no equal and never will. We all convinced of the rush of that euphoria and universal adoration in which we were after the Sochi rental. Perhaps the only person who understood that these were advances, and not reality, was Eteri Tutberidze, who was trying to make her ward forget about everything and work on.

But Julia left her coach. Next to her were people who just then made a fateful decision for the athlete. Ambition overpowered common sense, and Lipnitskaya became a victim of these same ambitions, which she also succumbed to. The 2013/14 season was the brightest for her in her career - the gold of the Olympics and the European Championship, the silver of the World Championship.

There were no more such successes in Lipnitskaya's career, and all attempts to return to the top again were unsuccessful. And even tragic, if we talk about the Russian Grand Prix in November last year. The free program to the music from the movie "Kill Bill" eventually "killed" the figure skater herself.

The saddest thing is that no one saw Yulia Lipnitskaya's women's skating. In Sochi, her skating, although inspired and touching everyone who saw it, was childishly angular - it is simply impossible to get away from this when there is a girl on the ice, and not a mature girl. And when the process of growing up was completed, the body began to falter.

Lipnitskaya's departure was just a technicality. The only intrigue was who would be the first to speak openly about it.

Olympic champion figure skater Lipnitskaya retired

Her mother said, not missing the opportunity to complain that the girl lives only on a lifetime presidential scholarship awarded to Olympic champions. That is, there is nothing unusual in the very fact of ending a career - everything went to this. But the information space exploded.

Everything returned three and a half years ago, to that very atmosphere of euphoria and universal adoration. And in this atmosphere, some absolutely ridiculous statements sounded. It even turned out that it was she who single-handedly brought women's skating in Russia to the highest level. And in the Ministry of Sports they are waiting for her as an official (a 19-year-old girl without education), and they are nominated to the State Duma deputies. Maybe this is enough already? All of us ourselves in February 2014 turned Lipnitskaya into a deity, and then were disappointed.

Stop teasing her with golden candy wrappers and expectations. Her performance in Sochi will remain in my memory forever, and now let her quietly begin her adult life. Without crowds of fans and TV cameras at every turn.

Olympic champion in Sochi figure skater Julia Lipnitskaya ends his sports career. This was announced by the girl's mother Daniela Lipnitskaya. Yulia herself refused to comment on this information. The coach of the athlete Alexei Urmanov also does not comment on this information. However, no one gave a refutation either. We tell you what could have caused such a decision, what Yulia will do and how her departure will affect the Russian team.

How did the mother of Yulia Lipnitskaya explain the reason for her daughter's departure from the sport?

Daniela Lipnitskaya announced that her daughter was ending her sports career due to anorexia. At the same time, according to her, it was not a spontaneous decision, but very well thought out.

Julia really suffered from anorexia?

Yes it's true. Back in September 2014, Daniela Lipnitskaya announced that Yulia was undergoing treatment for anorexia in Israel. The athlete had to undergo several courses of treatment with a diagnosis of anorexia.

By the way, the famous Russian coach Tatyana Tarasova also noted in an interview with TASS that Yulia Lipnitskaya's problems may be associated with the athlete's constant diets and, as a result, with a lack of the most important potassium and magnesium for the body.

Or maybe Julia could not recover from the injury?

And this is also possible. Recall that in December 2016, Lipnitskaya slipped on the sidewalk and injured her hip joint. Because of this, she was forced to miss the Russian Figure Skating Championships.

What do they say about the reasons for Lipnitskaya's departure from her colleagues in sports?

According to the head of the Russian Figure Skating Federation, Valentin Piseev, Yulia Lipnitskaya could not stand the competition with younger athletes: “Everyone understands wonderfully: there is Medvedev, Rodionova, Zagitova, with whom it is difficult for Yulia to fight.” Tatyana Navka also hinted at this: " Maybe she doesn't feel strong enough to fight."

How did they react to Lipnitskaya's departure in sports?

Many of Lipnitskaya's sports colleagues express regret that Yulia is leaving the big sport. Others agree that this decision is correct, given the series of failures that literally haunted the athlete in recent years.

"Julia is a star. Some stars shine for a long time, while others will flash like crazy - and go out. But she lit up everything. I want to wish her a wonderful life, she deserves it, because she is a very good, very smart girl and very kind," she quotes TASS words by Tarasova.

Ilya Averbukh noted that Lipnitskaya has a "25th frame" that makes her watch her performances. However, the talent and charisma of the girl did not develop.

The former mentor of Yulia Lipnitskaya, Eteri Tutberidze, noted that there are many athletes who end their careers much earlier than Lipnitskaya, and without even winning so many medals.

What will Lipnitskaya do after leaving the sport?

Julia herself generally refused to comment on information about her departure. However, according to her colleagues, a girl can find herself in many areas. So, for example, she is predicted an artistic future.

“Maybe she will study or she will go to any show that her data allows her to go. Because her data is absolute: she has a huge stretch, no one will ever forget her spins. She will recover her jumps, of course, and she will decoration of any show," Tarasova said.

Is it true that they want to make her an official?

Not yet known. The fact that Yulia can become an official was announced by the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Pavel Kolobkov. "I do not rule out that she will be able to start a career as an official - we are always waiting for her," the head of the TASS ministry quotes.

He stressed that Lipnitskaya is "an athlete and a personality with a capital letter." "We will give her all possible support," Kolobkov stressed.

How will Lipnitskaya's departure affect figure skating in Russia?

According to the honored coach of Russia Oleg Vasiliev, Lipnitskaya's departure will not affect the national team. He noted that today a worthy replacement is growing for Lipnitskaya, and in Russian sports today there are enough leaders in women's single skating.

The same opinion is shared by the Russian figure skater, world champion Maria Butyrskaya, Gazeta.ru writes.

What made Lipnitskaya famous in figure skating?

Yulia Lipnitskaya came to the rink at the age of four. The girl showed such brilliant results that her mother decided to move from Yekaterinburg to Moscow to continue her daughter's studies.

Julia has an innate flexibility, as well as a unique ability to accelerate the rotation within the rotation.

Already at the age of 13 (sports season 2011-2012), the girl was allowed to participate in international competitions. At the Grand Prix in Poland, Lipnitskaya won her first victory.

In 2012, she took silver at the Russian Championship, and then gold at the World Junior Championship.

In 2013-2014 Julia won the tournament in Finland during the Olympic season. After - gold in the Grand Prix among singles, silver in the Grand Prix final and victory at the 2014 European Championship.

At the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Lipnitskaya won the team competition, bringing the Russian team 20 points. At that moment, Yulia was 15 years old, and she became the youngest Russian woman to receive such an award. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who watched her performance, gave a standing ovation. And the international media called Lipnitskaya "a new symbol of Russia."

However, after the Olympics, the skater could not join the Russian team in the European Championship. Received silver in the final of the Russian Cup, the Tyrol Cup and first place at the Nepela Memorial. But due to an aggravated injury at the end of 2016, the athlete was unable to participate in the Skate America Grand Prix.

Yulia Lipnitskaya is the most talented titled athlete, winner of various local and international figure skating competitions, the youngest winner of the European Championship in the history of figure skating. Yulia has a lot of fans around the world, but lately many have been interested in the latest news about Yulia Lipnitskaya, whose anorexia required serious treatment (before and after photos can be seen below). This is due to the great excitement around the departure of the champion from the sport.

Rumors about leaving the sport

Rumors that the figure skater was leaving the big sport were a big shock for both her fans and colleagues, because the career of a young athlete has just begun, there are still so many achievements and brilliant victories ahead. Figure skating coach Alexander Zhulin said in an interview that the decision to end the champion's career was correct and deliberate, since it was influenced by a number of reasons:

  • according to Zhulin, it was not so easy for a young girl to cope with the world fame that had fallen overnight, she did not even have an idea how to communicate with the press and colleagues;
  • according to Zhulin, such a decision was influenced by the completely thoughtless departure of Yulia from coach Eteri Tutberidze, who was quite tough with the young figure skater and it was this toughness that she needed so much;
  • and the third reason for leaving the sport, Zhulin called Lipnitskaya's natural tendency to be overweight.

Photo: Yulia Lipnitskaya and Eteri Tutberidze

The girl began to grow up and gain weight, and this is simply strictly prohibited in sports and has the worst effect on the quality of training and performances. Zhulin said that Yulia began to struggle with excess weight, fell ill with anorexia, for which she was treated in Germany, after treatment she gained weight again. And, according to Zhulin, the time for the athlete has already been lost and she understands this, which is why she decided to leave figure skating.

For several months, all the media were full of headlines that Yulia Lipnitskaya, suffering from anorexia, had left the sport! At the same time, photos before and after anorexia have not been provided so far. True, the athlete herself did not react in any way to such information, categorically refusing any comments.

About whether Yulia Lipnitskaya is leaving the big sport, her coach and great professional Alexei Urmanov preferred not to spread, he only sparingly noted that he did not know the latest news about the athlete.

Big Interview

She confirmed the latest news about leaving the sport in 2018 only after a long silence, and finally gave a detailed interview, which was posted by the Russian Figure Skating Federation on its website in September. Yulia Lipnitskaya gave a link to it on her Instagram page, writing a short and warm post with words of gratitude to all the fans of her talent.

In an interview, Lipnitskaya admitted that the decision to leave the big sport was extremely difficult for her, but today her health comes first. She confirmed that she really was given a terrible diagnosis of "anorexia" and over the past few years she struggled with the disease under the supervision of doctors and experienced psychologists.

Yulia also admitted that not everyone from her inner circle understood and made her decision to announce her diagnosis, but the girl considered that such an act would be the most correct in the current situation, because sooner or later information about the disease will still become public.

The figure skater said that she was tormented by fears of the unknown, she did not know how her career in sports would develop and whether she would continue to perform at all. Although at the very beginning of her illness, she, her mother and coach were sure that the skater would certainly return to the ice, and would achieve a lot more in sports, improve a lot in her performances.

Julia says that she was not allowed to realize herself in sports only due to health problems. The girl admits that she has always been very shy, shied away from too many people, was not ready for the fame that so swiftly fell upon her. In the end, the skater suffered severe nervous exhaustion, which provoked the disease.

Yulia Lipnitskaya, when asked about her future plans, said that now her priority is only studying. She is actively studying English with a tutor, a little later she wants to try to find herself in some areas not related to ice.

World recognition

The career of Yulia Lipnitskaya in big-time sports is replete with brilliant victories, as well as truly tragic moments, about which the latest news is full.

The future champion was born in 1998 in Yekaterinburg. At the age of four, little Yulia was taken by her mother, Daniela Leonidovna, to the figure skating section, where the girl immediately showed remarkable talent. To realize her unconditional talent, the girl's family moved to the capital. There, the talented girl was mentored by Eteri Georgievna Tutberidze, who immediately noted the extraordinary flexibility and unique capabilities of the little skater when performing individual elements.

  1. After two years of hard training at the stage of the Junior Grand Prix, held in Poland, the athlete won her first gold medal. Further, at the stage in Italy there was a medal of the highest standard, and in the Grand Prix finals held in Quebec, Yulia became the first. At the 2012 Russian Championship, the figure skater won the second step of the podium. Then she won the highest step of the podium at the junior championship of Russia and the World Junior Championship. In 2011-2012, the figure skater won medals of the highest value at all international competitions. It was a real success and her first steps to deafening world fame.
  2. In 2012, in October, the athlete won an absolute victory in a tournament held in Finland. In November, she is awarded gold at the Grand Prix stages in China and France. But Yulia did not participate in the Grand Prix final due to an injury. For the same reason, the following year, the athlete also missed the Russian Championship, held in Sochi.
  3. The figure skater opened the Olympic season with magnificent victories at the tournament held in Finland and at the Grand Prix stage in Canada. At the Russian Championship, Yulia won silver only because she made minor flaws in the implementation of program elements. But in 2014, at the first European Championship in her career, the figure skater completely rehabilitated and won a resounding victory, beating eminent skaters, the 15-year-old girl was the youngest among the participants in the competition.
  4. At the Olympic Games in Sochi, held in 2014, Lipnitskaya became the absolute champion. The President of the country gave the athlete a standing ovation and personally congratulated her on her impressive success. World fame fell upon Yulia Lipnitskaya, her photos were placed on the cover of many foreign publications. Yulia was included in the top three most famous people of the year according to the largest search engines Google and Yandex. Authoritative European publications named Yulia the sportswoman of the year, so there was reason for the young winner's head to spin.

Crucial moment

After winning the Olympic Games, Lipnitskaya began to pursue failures in her career and personal life, she made mistakes in competitions, taking far from the most prestigious places. The girl perceived each new failure extremely painfully. As a result, Yulia decided to change her coach, since the demanding and result-oriented Tutberidze did not give the vulnerable athlete concessions.

The figure skater moved to a professional and talented coach Alexei Urmanov. This, according to the colleagues of the athlete, was a turning point in her career. Urmanov, unlike Tutberidze, is a gentle person and devoted a lot of time to bringing Lipnitskaya's mental balance back to normal, while the intensity of training decreased somewhat.

Julia was never able to get into sports shape and, having received several injuries, she missed important competitions in 2018. The champion withstood all the difficulties and failures, but the young body eventually gave up.

In 2015, the athlete began to undergo natural physiological changes in the body and she began to rapidly gain weight, which caused food refusal and anorexia. At first, the girl struggled with weight in all sorts of ways, when she already had difficulty performing her crown rotations, then Julia decided to cut her diet down a lot, which subsequently led to anorexia.

Julia Lipnitskaya today

But, despite all the difficulties, the life of an athlete is getting better. Yulia Lipnitskaya, judging by the numerous photos, has now successfully coped with anorexia and is leading a full life as a young girl. He learns to live away from annoying attention and constant pressure of responsibility, he is looking for his vocation in various fields.

In any case, the fate of Yulia Lipnitskaya and the fact that she suffers from anorexia does not cease to excite her many fans, and the latest news about the champion suggests that, perhaps, fans will soon discover her from a new perspective: the athlete is thinking about becoming a sports commentator . The figure skater with her perseverance, will to win and ability to overcome difficulties is sure to meet new achievements.

More recently, she was considered the heroine of Russia ...

finest hour

The pupil of Eteri Tutberidze, figure skater Yulia Lipnitskaya, gained worldwide fame at the 2014 Olympics. In Sochi, Yulia made the biggest contribution to the Russian figure skaters' team gold medal (20 points for the first two places in the short and free programs).

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who watched the performance from the audience, gave the young figure skater a standing ovation, and for the performance of the program on the theme of the film Schindler's List, its director Steven Spielberg sent a letter of gratitude to Lipnitskaya "for being able to carry the image of a girl in a red coat through the entire performance ".

The attention of the media and fans, pressure, a personal medal hung around Yulia's neck in advance and excessive excitement did not allow the 15-year-old athlete to successfully perform in the individual tournament - Lipnitskaya made mistakes at the box office, eventually taking only fifth place.

In 2014, Yulia Lipnitskaya's popularity was colossal: she appeared on the cover of Time magazine, topped the list of global trends on Twitter, entered the top three "People of the Year" of transnational companies Google and Yandex.

After the resounding success in Sochi, there was no continuation of the high flight: Yulia began to have problems with weight control, as well as disagreements with the coach. Tension and misunderstanding grew, and, in the fall of 2015, Lipnitskaya, after six years spent in the group of Eteri Tutberidze, went to Alexei Urmanov.

This did not solve the skater's problems. The body matured, the flaws in the technique became more and more noticeable, the “crown” jumps and rotations stopped working, the programs did not shoot, the skater was pursued by injuries, she over and over again disrupted the rentals and did not get into the national team. At the end of 2016, Lipnitskaya openly admitted that she had anorexia and would have to undergo a three-month course of treatment.

After rehabilitation, in April 2017, Yulia informed the leadership of the FFKKR about her plans to end her career, and in September 2017 an official statement was made about this - Lipnitskaya left the big sport.

The 2013-2014 season remained the brightest in Yulia's career, bringing her the title of European champion and Olympic champion.

Where is Yulia Lipnitskaya now?

Julia lives in Moscow. The athlete prefers not to talk about her life: “I am not a public person. It has always been so. Since childhood, I have been a very strong introvert. To talk to a stranger, I had to make an effort on myself. Now I communicate much easier with different people, I have become much more sociable. But I have already developed certain habits, stereotypes that I follow. And I don't think that I need to climb into every newspaper, every program where they call me. I do not welcome it and I will not do it.

What is Yulia Lipnitskaya doing now?

After the end of her career, Yulia said that she was interested in sports management, but she did not see herself as a coach: “Most of all, I want to find a business that will be interesting to do in life. Now I am at a crossroads, because there are many proposals, different options, projects ... But I cannot and do not want to come somewhere just to sit in the role of a wedding general. I want to participate myself, to do what would be most interesting to me.”

For some time, the skater commented on figure skating competitions, studied English with a tutor and was looking for something to her liking.

In February 2018, the “Academy of Champions” was opened in Moscow, where the main coaches were Yulia Lipnitskaya, Sochi 2014 Olympic champion in ice dancing Elena Ilinykh and 2012 Youth Olympic medalist in pair skating Maxim Miroshkin.

The Ilinykh/Lipnitskaya partnership was unexpected only at first glance. Elena recalls the beginning of her friendship with Yulia in this way: “I don’t remember the year, but I think it was the Russian Championship. And I had no idea that we would become friends, but it seemed to me that in front of me ... an angel (smiles). At the same time, she looked like a very strong person with a big heart.

Yes, she was still a child, and I was a little older. I remember watching the women's single with my mom and other people and saying, "Listen, this is amazing!" Then I approached and asked her to take a picture. She was so tiny…..and said, “Okay” (shrugs, smiling to show Julia's sincere reaction) – and now we have this photo. I think I was 16 and she was 12. But even then she was amazing.

And I can't say that we were best friends from that moment, even if we got to the same competitions, we didn't have time to talk. So it's not that we always went hand in hand - she worked, she had her own life, and I have mine. But we supported each other in any situation. I have always felt her support. And, if she felt bad, she wrote to me, I answered, and we knew that even if we are far from each other, we are still close. True, I don’t know how this friendship entered our lives - maybe life situations helped, maybe something else .... but now we talk to each other a lot.”

Elena Ilyinykh in one of her interviews spoke about the implementation of the idea: “I had this idea for a long time: to have an Academy and travel with it all over Russia with summer camps, master classes, and possibly all over the world, I thought about it. On New Year's Eve 2018, I had to go to a children's show in St. Petersburg. And I went to this show with Maxim. And while we were sitting on the train from Moscow to St. Petersburg, it was a five-hour trip, I shared my idea with him, and as strange as it was, he had the same idea! We talked a lot about this, analyzed from different angles what we want to do, how to start. I called my lawyer to make sure everything was legally correct, because I didn't want it to look like: "So, I'm an Olympic champion, I'll go and take the money." No, I wanted it to be a good project.
