Swimming pool between houses. In London, a glass pool will connect the roofs of two buildings. A glass pool will be built high above the ground between the houses

For most, the pool is associated with a sports complex or a place for swimming in the yard of their own house. But modern architects go further, introducing pools into a wide variety of architectural structures in a very unexpected way. In our review, we collected 10 of the most incredible pools.

1. Sky Pond at Embassy Gardens

Embassy Gardens is a residential development currently under development in London. It should include two 10-storey residential buildings, interconnected at the roof level by footbridges and ... a swimming pool. Moreover, people swimming in the pool will be able to look at passers-by from a height of 35 meters, since the entire structure is transparent.

2. Pool on the roof of the Jellyfish House

Jellyfish House is a private villa in the Spanish city of Marbella, which was designed by Weil Arets Architects. The owners wanted their house to have a view of the Mediterranean coast, but the surrounding hills completely blocked the view from the windows. The architects solved the problem in a very unusual way - they built a pool on the roof of a four-story villa. The pool is unusual not only because it has a great view of the sea and the Sierra Blanca mountain range, but also because of its transparent bottom, through which you can see the upper floor.

3. "Pond of infinity" in Mirage House

A unique rooftop pool adorned a cave house built by the Athenian studio KOIS Associated Architects on the Greek island of Tinos (Cyclades archipelago). The house fits perfectly into the surrounding picturesque landscape, and the pond on its roof visually looks like a continuation of the sea on the shore of which it is located.

4. Suspended pool at InterContinental Dubai

Suspended from the fourth floor of the InterContinental Hotel in Dubai, a cantilever pool will provide hotel guests with a unique "floating in the air" experience. Not only is the wall of the hanging pool completely transparent, but it also offers stunning views of Dubai.

5. Pool "Jenga" in Hemeroscopium House

Hemeroscopium House is a private house designed by Anton Garcia-Abril and built near Madrid. Hemeroscopium is notable for its design (it seems to consist of three huge I-beams), as well as a cantilevered pool "sticking out" of the building. The amazing thing is that the whole structure was built in just a week.

6. Las Lomas Hanging Pool

Peruvian architecture studio Vertice Arquitectos designed a house on Las Lomas Beach in 2010. The unusual futuristic structure offers 180° panoramic views (of the Pacific Ocean to the south and the beach to the east and north). The house is also notable for its balconies and a swimming pool that hang over the beach. At the same time, the wall of the pool is transparent so that you can admire the sea.

7. Pool over the lake in Texas

World-renowned architectural firm Anderson-Wise Architects built this home near Austin, Texas. Especially unusual in the house is a cantilevered prismatic pool, which hangs 6 meters above the lake. The house is currently on sale for $2,950,000.

8. Infinity pool in Bali

The most striking feature of the Ubud Hanging Gardens in Bali is the large, tiered swimming pool, which creates the illusion of infinity and seems to merge with the surrounding nature. The luxury resort was built in the middle of the rainforest and rice fields of Ubud.

9. Hanging pool at the Joule Hotel

This unusual pool, designed by Architexas, protrudes 2.5 meters from the wall of the Joule Hotel in Dallas. It actually hangs right above the city street, so a very unusual view of cars and pedestrians opens up before the swimmers.

10. Hanging pool Casa Vale Do Lobo

Casa Vale Do Lobo is a contemporary U-shaped residence designed by Portuguese designers Arqui+. The suspended pool is located right in the middle of the patio of the villa, located in Vale do Lobo, a Portuguese golf resort.

In London, a 25-meter "Sky Pool" (Sky Pool) with a transparent bottom will connect two ten-story houses. According to the creators, this will be the first such construction in the world.

People in the pool will be able to look down on passers-by from a height of 35 m.

The project was developed by the design company Eckersley O "Callaghan, who previously developed designs for Apple stores in different cities around the world.

The swimming pool will be part of the Embassy Gardens residential complex in Nine Elms near central London and will be located near the former Battersea power station, which has become one of the capital's attractions after the closure.

The planners hope to complete the project by 2019, but it will not be easy to implement given that the pool will be attached to two buildings built on different foundations.

"They sway differently in the wind, so the main problem is that we're trying to stretch a potentially fragile structure between two buildings that don't sway in sync," engineer Brian Eckersley told the BBC.

The structure will be fixed with the help of special bearings, which will allow to some extent to compensate for the movement of buildings. But it is also necessary to take into account the pressure of water on the walls and bottom of the pool.

“There are walls that are about to burst, plus the weight of water that the structure has to withstand. And all this weight is transferred to the supporting houses,” Eckersley said.

"When using plexiglass, a more natural transparent structure is obtained, the refraction of light in which is more similar to the refraction of light in water. Therefore, there will be no distortion between water and the material that occurs when using ordinary glass," he said.

The water will be filtered to keep the inside of the plexiglass walls clean, but the outside of the pool will need to be cleaned regularly, just like any glass surface.

Sean Mullryan, head of the Ballymore Group that commissioned the project, said in a statement that being in the pool would make one feel as if one were floating above central London.

Glass pool at a height between two houses
Soon, residents of two London residential buildings will have the opportunity to swim in, which will connect the roofs of both buildings. The size of the pool will be 28 by 6 meters, access to it will be from the terraces on the roofs of the houses. For the safety of swimmers, the thickness of the glass from which the pool will be made will be 20 centimeters, and the depth of the pool will be 122 centimeters. Therefore, the inhabitants of the houses will be able to swim back and forth between opposite terraces at any time. The thrill of sensations for swimmers will be provided by the transparent bottom of the pool, located at a height of several tens of meters above the ground.

Both houses are located in the embassy quarter on Nine Elms Street in London. From here you have a beautiful view of the Palace of Westminster and the London Eye - the largest observation wheel in the world. Together with the swimming pool on the roofs of the two buildings, a summer bar, sun loungers, a spa center and a greenhouse will be equipped. The unusual idea belongs to Sean Mullryan, founder and chairman of the board of real estate development company Ballymore. Not surprisingly, apartments in these houses will go on sale in September with huge price tags! For example, the smallest and cheapest apartment would cost £600,000.
