After that, a sketch was drawn up on a piece of paper with an ordinary ballpoint pen, I drew everything that needs to be radically changed and added.

But after working for several days, the engine unfortunately died, because it was also very old and probably its natural time had come to go for spare parts and remelting.

The engine was good, but I had to part with it.

In its place, I installed a new engine from the same Druzhba chainsaw, only newer than 1992, it was in store since the winter, and now its finest hour has come)

As they say, "Oh, trouble, trouble, chagrin" What to do? First of all, the author changed the gear ratio on the chain gearbox, consisting of bicycle sprockets and a chain.

It didn't help much, so that's not the reason. And then the idea came to make a water-cooled chainsaw engine. But how to implement it? In general, the author does the following, namely, he takes a plastic bottle and connects 2 hoses to it, one at the top for air intake, and the second at the bottom for supplying water through a dropper to the cylinder head of the Druzhba chainsaw engine. This kind of drip irrigation)) But according to the author, the engine stopped warming up at high speeds and feels great.

If there is no desire to fool around with a gasoline engine, there is another option - to put an electric motor. It can be bought or installed from another device. The first option for creating electric mopeds is preferable, since the necessary power is already provided in the engines.

Installation options - a motor-wheel and an independent engine on a chain or belt drive.

The motor-wheel differs from the usual one by the presence of a drive mechanism in the central part. With the help of wires, it is connected to the control unit. A significant advantage is the ability to make the bike front-wheel drive without making changes to the classic transmission. And if you want, you can even put two motor-wheels. Installing is easy enough, provided the bike itself allows it. However, a bike with such wheels can be attributed to a moped with a big stretch.


Motor wheel kit

An electric moped is a completely different matter, that is, an analogue of the one discussed above. Of course, an exhaust pipe will not be needed here - this is a plus both in terms of reliability and overall weight.

It will be problematic to assemble an engine from scratch at home, so let's look at how to install a finished motor shaft.

Progress:

  1. Install a new sprocket and belt pulley on the carriage axle.
  2. A shaft with a drive pulley is attached to the seat tube.
  3. The pulleys are connected by a belt.
  4. Through the wires, the shaft is connected to a power source.
  5. Run the wires from the battery to the steering wheel switch.


Speed ​​bike with electric motor

The location of the battery is on the lower front tube of the frame or on the trunk. The scheme of the electric motor:

  1. When the electric motor is turned on, the rotating roller engages with the rear wheel tire, pushing it.
  2. Through the pulleys and the front sprocket, torque is transmitted to the transmission.
  3. Gear shifting causes a change in output torque. In this case, the speed of rotation of the roller is kept constant.

DIY electric bike:

Optionally, you can connect a second shaft to the front wheel by linking it to the driven pulley of the main gear.

The engine allows you to reach the optimum speed faster and hold it longer. A bicycle-based moped is a budget option to become the owner of a faster and more powerful vehicle. The transformation of a bicycle into a moped in most cases does not make irreversible changes to the design, so it is possible to return everything to its place.
