That Spartak won the last time. The world when Spartak was last champion

Only a miracle can prevent Spartak Moscow from becoming the Russian football champion this year. There are only four rounds ahead, there are no matches left on the calendar with any of the direct rivals, and the gap from the nearest pursuer is as much as 8 points.

For Spartak, this title of Russian champion will be the tenth in a row, and the most long-awaited in history, because the team has not won the national championship for 16 years. The last time Oleg Romantsev led the Spartak team to gold medals back in 2001. To get a feel for how long ago that was, we invite you to remember what the world was like in 2001.

George W. Bush became President of the United States. Bush became the first U.S. president to win by electoral vote, although he lost by total popular vote. Doesn't it remind you of anything? Yes, the new US President Donald Trump did the same thing last year.

Russian Wikipedia consists of one article dedicated to the word "Russia". The article begins with the words: "Russia is a great country...".

The backbone of the Russian national football team is Alexander Mostovoy, Alexei Smertin, Vladimir Beschastnykh, Yuri Kovtun, Yegor Titov. At the gate is the permanent Ruslan Nigmatullin, recognized as the best player in the 2001 Russian Championship.

In 2001, everything in Russian football was different.

How young we were

Spartak in the national championship started as the current champion, who a year before calmly secured victory and finished eight points ahead of the closest competitor, Lokomotiv.

Zenit was considered a strong middle peasant. The future first stars of Russian football were just beginning to show themselves: 20-year-old Andrei Arshavin and 19-year-old Alexander Kerzhakov. At the head of the blue-white-blue was Yuri Morozov, who, despite the seventh place in the previous season, was left at his post.

One of the strongest clubs was the Moscow "Torpedo". CSKA limped along in the middle of the standings, only slightly ahead of Saturn, Alania and Rotor, which no longer existed in their former form, were living out their great period. "Rostov" was also called "Rostselmash".

The local Lokomotiv was still playing in Nizhny Novgorod, and a team called Torpedo-ZiL had just entered the top division. Seven years remained before the creation of Krasnodar.

Are newbies lucky?

In the first round, "Spartak" had to play with the newcomers of the highest division - the Saratov "Sokol". It is unlikely that Oleg Romantsev, who led the undisputed favorite of the entire championship, could expect such resistance from a team that had recently played a class lower. The meeting ended with a score of 0:0. Spartak failed to start right off the bat.

Four wins in a row followed. After the fifth round, four teams were leading with 13 points: the same Sokol, the young and daring Zenit, Spartak and Wings of the Soviets, led by Alexander Tarkhanov.

After the sixth round, Spartak left only three clubs among the leaders, having played a draw with another newcomer to the top football world - Torpedo-ZiL. Zenit, Sokol and Wings won their matches and broke away from Spartak by two points.

In the seventh round, a terrible thing happened - Spartak on the road lost to Saturn with a devastating score - 0:3.

Lost to the opponent and "Zenith" - just "Wings of the Soviets", and "Falcon" on the road played a draw with "Dynamo". As a result, the sole leader was finally determined in the tournament table - Samara "Wings", by that time they had scored 11 goals against their opponents with only one missed ball.

Long chase

The backlog of "Spartak" from the leader was five points and the club took the fourth line. Something had to be done about it.

But it's one thing to say it, and quite another to put it into practice. The chase began, and not bad, with a 3-0 victory over Fakel. However, the defeat of the outsider was followed by a draw with Dynamo - 1:1.

The leading Wings of the Soviets were doing even worse. Tarkhanov's team lost one match and drew another one. Only two points remained from the advantage. And in the tenth round Samarans just had to play with Spartak.

The red-whites snatched a minimal victory, but could not lead the tournament table. Sokol was at the head of the championship, which before that had the same number of points as the Samara team. Now the newcomer to the top division single-handedly led the championship with two points of advantage over the reigning and almost permanent champion.

"Falcon" would not be enough for a long time. Indeed, the Saratov team lost to Anji in the next round. But not Spartak came forward. The red-whites also lost in the 11th round - 0:2 from the Moscow "Torpedo" and returned to the fourth line. The leadership was regained by Krylya Sovetov, which caught up with Sokol in terms of points and outstripped them in additional indicators.

In the 12th round, Spartak failed to beat Alania - 1:1. Oleg Romantsev's happiness simultaneously lost to the tandem of leaders. So, instead of increasing, the backlog of Spartak only decreased.

This was followed by two victories in a row: over Anji and a strong Lokomotiv. So in the 14th round, Spartak took the lead for the first time. "Wings" and "Falcon" lost again. Now the red-and-whites were two points ahead of their pursuers.

Final victory?

But Spartak was not destined to complete the first round in first place. The defeat from Zenit with a score of 1:2 prevented. Two-thirds of the match "Spartak" led in the score, thanks to Parfyonov's goal, but the goals of Kerzhakov and Katulsky, scored in the 70th and 74th minutes of the match, crossed everything out. The "summer" champion was "Wings of the Soviets", ahead of "Spartak" by one point - 29 against 28.

The second and seventh places in the standings were separated by only three points - there had never been such a density before. One mistake and you're way behind.

In the 16th round, "Spartak" defeated another outsider - "Chernomorets" - 5:0, once again taking the lead. The summer transfer campaign was very active for Spartak. The team left 11 players. 18 fighters arrived in the regiment, including the top scorer of the Russian national team Vladimir Beschastnykh, who completed his foreign wanderings.

But again this leadership did not last long. The confident victory was followed by two draws: with CSKA (1:1) and Rotor (3:3). However, the rivals could not use these marks of red and white. As a result, the backlog of Spartak was symbolic - one point from the Wings of the Soviets.

Everything changed in the 19th round, when the red-and-whites tore to pieces Rostselmash with a score of 5:1, and Wings lost to Anji 1:4 on the road. "Spartak" did not give the first line to anyone.

Troubled times

Everything that happened next only looks so orderly on paper. In fact, many matches were postponed to other dates. This was due to the participation of Russian clubs in European competitions and the overlap of all this with the championship and the Cup of the country. At some point, Spartak even had a margin of two matches - they had to count not only the points scored, but also the points lost.

But this did not mean that the championship was given to the Romantsev team easily. On the contrary, it was not possible to break away from the pursuers, of whom there was a whole heap, by more than four points. But the advantage was still quite comfortable - it left the right to make a mistake. It happened in the 26th round, when Spartak played a draw with Alania (3:3), allowing the pursuers to reach arm's length - two points from Lokomotiv.

The last four rounds could become a real home for Spartak: a game with Anji, an away match with Lokomotiv, a home match with the third Zenit and an unpredictable trip to Saratov to visit Sokol. Anything could happen .

How lucky “Spartak” was when, in the match of the 27th round, the railwaymen unexpectedly lost to “Chernomorets”, which was in last place, five lost points behind the red-and-whites. This match gave "Spartak" If not for Yuri Semin's club that defeat, the railway workers would have come out on top.

The September 11 terrorist attack in the United States added additional confusion to the calendar. Because of him, European competition games were postponed. I had to readjust the calendar. Because of this, massive reshuffles took place in all European national football championships.

In Russia, for example, the 30th round was played earlier than the 28th. Then there were matches of the 29th round. And the championship of Russia ended with the 28th round on November 8, 2001. The game of this round between Spartak and Lokomotiv did not decide anything. Red and white lost. "Golden" was the match of the 29th round against "Zenith", in which "Spartak" won 3:1 and secured the ninth and so far the last championship title.

Lokomotiv finished second, four points behind due to a draw in the last round against Rostselmash. Zenit finished third, Torpedo - fourth. "Wings of the Soviets", which were in the lead for almost half a season, were content with only the fifth line. The sixth was "Saturn". Fakel and Chernomorets left the top division, having managed to intervene in the championship race.

Team History

“Spartak”, probably, does not need to be introduced, it is not for nothing that the label “people's” has been glued to this team since Soviet times. No joke: 12-time champion of the USSR, 9-time champion of Russia, 10-time winner of the USSR Cup, 3-time winner of the Russian Cup. A team that has been in the semi-finals of all European competitions: the Champions Cup, the UEFA Cup, and the Cup Winners' Cup. Not far off - think, something about a dozen years - the centenary of the club. How did it all start, how was Spartak able to reach such heights?

The year of birth of the "red-white" team is considered to be 1922, when on April 18 the Moscow sports circle of the Krasnopresnensky district was founded. At the same time, the Starostin brothers joined the team, who would later become legends and symbols of the club. And for the first thirteen years of its history, the team, which often changed its names, but it has not yet reached the proud Spartak, played in the Moscow championship. She performed not unsuccessfully, winning the tournament four times. In 1934, one of the four brothers - Nikolai - was appointed head of the team, and a year later, when a voluntary sports society was created on the basis of Promkooperatsia, he also proposed to name it in honor of the leader of the Roman slaves - Spartak.

Those years generally became crucial in the development of the club. In 1935, as soon as the decision on the new name was made, the charter and emblem were developed, the colors of the form known to everyone now were approved. A little later, a base was opened in Tarasovka. In 1936, Spartak, teaming up with Dynamo, made their first trip abroad, taking part in a friendly match with the French "Racing" ...

In the same year, "Spartak" for the first time became the champion of the USSR, winning the autumn tournament, and in the spring (in the debut year, the football season in the country contained as many as two championships) became the third. The next season, when the wise decision was made to hold one tournament in one calendar year, the Spartacists were second, but in the next two years, the “red-whites” again turned out to be the strongest. In the last tournament held before the war, the Spartacists took third place ...

Even during the years of battles with Nazi Germany, football in the capital did not die, and before the resumption of the USSR championship, the Spartak team once won the city championship and became bronze medalists three times. It was the third line in the national championship that the Spartak team occupied three times after the return of life to normal. Muscovites were able to become champions again only in 1952.

Over the next four seasons, the Spartacists twice became second and twice first. Then, taking a season-long pause, the team made the golden double for the first time since 1939, winning the championship and becoming the owner of the national cup. All these successes of the 50s were achieved by the team under the leadership of Vasily Sokolov and Nikolai Gulyaev. Then came the era of Simonyan, who, with a short break, led the team for twelve seasons.

However, Simonyan did not achieve grandiose successes with Spartak: for the entire time he was in charge of the team, the Red-Whites won the USSR championship only twice. Just in those one and a half seasons that Simonyan missed, the Spartak team made their debut in official European matches, reaching the 1/8 finals of the Cup Winners' Cup. However, further progress, not only in the international arena, but also in the national championship, had to be postponed. In the 1970s and 1980s, Muscovites lost the rivalry to Dynamo Kyiv, led by Lobanovsky. The year 1972, when the team became the eleventh, was the last for Simonyan at the helm of Spartak, and then the wards of Anatoly Krutikov in the autumn championship of 1976 took 15th place, after which the Spartak team left the highest division.

Konstantin Beskov, who came to the team, immediately returned the “red-whites” to the elite, and a season later he managed to win the national championship. Over the next seven seasons, the Spartak team became second five times and third twice. It wasn't until 1987 that the Red-Whites reached the top again. In the same years, the team performed well in European competitions, reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions Cup in the 1980/81 season, and three years later - to the same stage of the UEFA Cup. In 1988, "Spartak" for the first time in a long time was left without medals, becoming the fourth, and there was a change of mentor in the club. Instead of the departed Beskov, the team was headed by its former defender Oleg Romantsev, whose name is associated with the next era in the history of the club.

Having immediately won the 1989 championship, the Spartak team took a break, caught their breath, looked around ... after which they could not be stopped. Nine league titles over the next ten years, wins over Maradona's Napoli and Butragueño's Real Madrid, European semi-finals. "Spartak" of the 90s set the tone for all Russian football. However, the 2001 championship until 2013 remains the last. In 2003, Romantsev left the team, after which coaching leapfrog began in the Spartak camp. Chernyshov, Skala, Starkov, Fedotov, Cherchesov, Laudrup - a rare mentor managed to work at the club for more than one season. “Spartak” during this time became the second five times, but the “red-whites” could not reach the jubilee, tenth victory in the championships of Russia. After glorious victories over the giants of European football, the Spartak team repeatedly failed performances in Europe, and Spartak fans will never forget about the ill-fated 1-18 in the 2002/03 season.

The 2003 and 2004 seasons turned out to be the worst for Spartak in Russian history. Then the “red-whites” took the shameful tenth and eighth places. In 2005, the owner of the team was Leonid Fedun, who promised the revival of the "people's team". In a way, he kept his word. “Spartacus” three times turned out to be second in the Premier League, finally returned to the Champions League, but to take a decisive step forward “red-white could not”.

The second wave of hopes for a "revival" was associated with the arrival of Valery Karpin to the post of general director in August 2008. The former Spartak player immediately set to work, removing Stanislav Cherchesov from his post as head coach, who, incidentally, led Spartak to silver medals. The appointment of Mikael Laudrup was perceived by the fans as a pleasant surprise, but the Dane failed to cope with his duties, and was soon fired. Karpin decided that it was time to become the head coach himself, and led the “red-whites”. For three years, Valery Georgievich twice led Spartak to silver medals, but at the same time the capital club could not seriously compete for the championship, and things did not go well in European competition. Despite the boundless trust of the fans, who were already habitually chanting: “Valera, we believe,” Karpin gave his coaching position to the Spaniard Unai Emery in the summer of 2012, who coached Valencia.

The next experience of the invited specialist turned out to be unsuccessful, and already in November 2012, Emery was fired, and Karpin again became the head coach, hoping that on the second attempt he would still be able to lead Spartak to the long-awaited champion title.

MOSCOW SPORTS CIRCLE

In 1922, pre-revolutionary clubs set the tone for Moscow football. It was then that it was decided to create a new working club that could unite athletes living in Krasnaya Presnya and near it. One of the authors of the idea was Ivan Timofeevich Artemiev, who was able to inspire with his idea many of the famous football players of that time: the Starostin brothers, Khaidin, Kvashnin, Prokofiev, Mizger and others.

The first match, which was friendly, the new team played against the 6-time champion of Moscow - Zamoskvoretsky Sports Club (ZKS). This significant event took place on April 18, 1922 and ended with the victory of the ISS with a score of 3: 2. The birth of the club took place!

But the first official meeting took place on April 23 in the Opening Cup. In this match MKS beat ZKS with a score of 5:1.

In the spring championship of Moscow in 1922, the ISS was included in class "B". Having won all the matches of the regular season and the first round of the absolute championship of Moscow between the winners in classes "A", "B", "C" and "G", MKS reached the final, where it suffered its first defeat from the day of its foundation from OLLS (now it is CSKA ).

In the autumn championship, the MKS took first place in its group and, having beaten the weakest class “A” team in the transition match, moved up.

FROM ISS TO INDUSTRIAL COOPERATION

In 1923, the ISS and its site came under the control of the Krasnopresnensky district committee of the Komsomol. At the same time, the club received a new name - Krasnaya Presnya - and became the winner of the spring championships in Moscow in 1923 and 1924. On July 20, 1924, the completely rebuilt Krasnaya Presnya Stadium was opened. On August 8, the international debut took place - in the presence of 11 thousand spectators, the Norwegian team AIF was beaten.

The beginning of 1926 was marked by the transfer of the team under the wing of the Union of Food Workers. Because of this, the name was also changed, from now on the club became known as "Pishcheviki". The team also moved to a new arena - the stadium named after the Tomsk Union of Food Workers, which was built in July 1926. Now it is the well-known "Stadium of Young Pioneers".

In 1931, by decision of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions, the unified trade union of food workers was liquidated. As a result, "Pishcheviki" changed their name to "Promkooperatsia", since they came under the wing of the All-Coprom Council.

The years 1932-1933 are the most mysterious in the pre-Spartak history of the club. The events of those days coincided with a sharp decline in newspaper coverage of football. Therefore, it is very difficult to judge the true reasons for the transfer of the leading players of Promkooperatsia to Dukat, which jeopardized the very existence of the team.

The Dukat tobacco factory was one of the largest enterprises in Moscow, and a lot of attention was paid to sports. Factory sports clubs belonged to the food workers' union, and the factory's football team appeared in 1926. In the spring of 1931, "Dukat" starts in the championship of the Krasnopresnensky district, and in the fall it plays in the second group of the Moscow championship. In 1932-1933, Dukat played in the group of the strongest, and starting from 1934, it gradually dropped out of the leading Moscow clubs. In modern terms, Dukat and Promkooperatsia were teammates: both teams belonged to the Union of Food Workers, so it is quite possible that the transfer of players from team to team was of a centralized nature.

On September 22, 1934, the creation of the voluntary sports society Spartak was announced, and on November 14, a message appeared about the renaming of Promkooperatsiya into Spartak. The final decision to create the Spartak DSO was made on January 28, 1935. Spartak played its first match at the same stadium as in 1922, when its history began. On April 12, in a friendly match, Trekhgorka was beaten - 7: 1.

A week later, on April 19, the VSFK and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR approved the charter and regulations on the All-Union Trade Union Cooperative DSO "Spartak" (Decree No. 45). The charter of the society, the emblem and the color of the uniform were approved: red T-shirts with a white transverse stripe on the chest and back 8.5 cm wide. The football team received a base in Tarasovka, the field of which was opened on July 18 with a friendly match with Spartak from Pavlovsky Posad . The entire football structure, within which the team of masters also played, was called the Spartak Central Football School. Back in 1934, Nikolai Petrovich Starostin was appointed its head.

The emblem and name of the Moscow Spartak was invented by the founding father of this society, Nikolai Starostin. Here is how the brother of Nikolai Petrovich, Andrei Starostin, describes the history of the creation of Spartak:

“But I undertake to assert in any commission that this name flared up unexpectedly after long squabbles. He saw Giovagnoli's book and probably remembered, that's what we need - Spartacus. And indeed, this is how it happened, everyone agreed quickly, because Spartacus, the hero of the gladiators, possessed all the qualities that an athlete, including a modern one, should have.

Before the start of the team in the first championship of the USSR, there were serious changes in the leadership. Nikolai Starostin took the chair of the head of the Spartak MGS, and Ivan Filippov was appointed head of the team instead. At the training camp in Sukhumi, the team was trained by Mikhail Kozlov, and before the spring championship, Spartak received a head coach - Czech Antonin Fivebr, who had experience in Italy and Spain.

The debut in the new tournament turned out to be devastating for the Spartak team - a 0:3 defeat by CSKA. Spartak finished this spring championship in 3rd place. In the break between the spring and autumn championships, the red-whites took part in the USSR Cup, where they lost in the ¼ finals to Dynamo Tbilisi.

Before the start of the autumn stage, the team was headed by Mikhail Kozlov, who replaced the Czech who left for Leningrad. Having suffered only one defeat in 7 matches, Spartak became the winner of the autumn championship. We have our first championship!

The red-whites spent 1938 and 1939 brilliantly, making golden doubles in each season, that is, winning the championship and the USSR Cup.

On June 22, 1941, Muscovites were supposed to meet in Leningrad with the local Spartak. But the match did not take place. The war has begun. The head of Spartak, his former goalkeeper Ivan Filippov and coach Pyotr Popov left as volunteers for the front. Both, like Vladislav Zhmelkov, who received two medals "For Courage" and the Order of Glory 3rd degree, ended the war in 1945 in Berlin. On the battlefields, the Spartacists of past years, Anatoly Velichkin and Stepan Kustylkin, laid down their heads.

During the war, Spartak won the championship and the Moscow Cup.

In the first post-war championship, Spartak performed unsuccessfully, but won the USSR Cup under the leadership of Albert Volrath. The Cup was also won the following season, although there was again a failure in the championship.

In 1949, two young football players joined the Spartak team - Igor Netto and Nikita Simonyan, and in 1948 - Alexei Paramonov - the great players of the Moscow Spartak.

The heyday of the team began with the 1952 season. This year Spartak won gold medals, but in the final of the USSR Cup lost to Torpedo with a score of 0:1. A year later, Spartak again become the strongest team in the Soviet Union, having suffered only 2 defeats in 25 matches! Hooray! We are five-time champions of the USSR!

In the next 5 years, Spartak won 2 more sets of gold medals, 2 times became a silver medalist and once a bronze medal. Also in 1958, the USSR Cup was won.

It is worth noting that at the Olympics in Melbourne, the “golden” team of the USSR was almost completely staffed by Spartak players: Tishchenko, Ogonkov, Netto, Paramonov, Maslyonkin, Salnikov, Tatushin, Ilyin, Isaev and Simonyan.

I had to wait 4 years before the team again became the champion of the USSR in 1962. And in 1963, together with the silver medals of the national championship, the USSR Cup was again won.

In 1966, an important event took place in the history of the club - the team made its debut in the European Cup Winners' Cup, thanks to the victory in the USSR Cup-1965. Having beaten the Yugoslav OFK in the 1/16 finals with a total score of 6:1, in the next round Spartak lost to the Austrian Rapid - 1:1 at home, 0:1 away.

The first European pancake was not lumpy.

In 1969, Spartak, under the leadership of the best scorer in the history of the club Nikita Simonyan, again became the champion of the Soviet Union, thereby winning the right to participate in the European Champions Cup.

In 1974, the team took second place in the championship, followed by the "black years" in the history of Spartak. 1975 - 10th place, 1976 (spring) - 14th, 1976 (autumn) - 15th. As a result of these failures, the once strongest and most titled club in the country fell into the 1st league (the only time in its history). It is worth noting that in 1976 the future head coach of Spartak Oleg Ivanovich Romantsev made his debut in the team.

In 1977, Konstantin Beskov, the greatest Soviet coach, was invited to the post of head mentor of Spartak. The boldness of the step taken by the head of the team, Nikolai Starostin, at the suggestion of his brother Andrei, is surprising. After all, Beskov was a true Dynamo player, a pupil of the historical rival of Spartak.

The line-up required a radical restructuring, and newcomers joined the team, thus replacing the losers of the past season. The most successful coaching acquisitions of Beskov are considered to be Sergey Shavlo, Georgy Yartsev and Yuri Gavrilov.

Surprisingly, Spartak, thanks to its game, gathered more people at the stadium than the football clubs of the Major League. Such attendance spoke of the faith of the people in their team - even in difficult times. For the most part, people understood that Spartak was going through a period of formation. In six months, the case can be decisively ruined, but oh, how difficult it is to restore the destroyed.

Spartak won a ticket to high society 2 more rounds before the end of the tournament. Small gold medals have become a well-deserved reward for a team that has found itself. And the point is not only in the confident return of the strongest to the company, but also in the appearance of a game that delighted the most demanding connoisseurs. The red-whites resolutely rejected the “away model” adopted in the highest football society and entered the field of any stadium with one desire - to win.

1978 was marked by laying the foundation for future success and dominance in domestic football until 2001. This year, the first matches in Spartak were held by the young Fedor Cherenkov, who later became a living legend and symbol of the club. Having completed the 1978 championship in 5th place, the very next year Spartak won gold medals, contrary to forecasts before the start of the season.

Since this year, Spartak has become a formidable force both in the Union and in Europe. This is also evidenced by the results of the team: over 10 seasons (1979-1989), the red-whites won 4 championship titles, 5 times became second and 2 times third. An amazing result, given the strength of the Soviet championship at this time.

In 1980, Spartak began a unique streak of 25 consecutive years of European competition, alternating excellent games with not very successful ones.

1988 ended with the victory in the Cup of the country and the resignation of Konstantin Beskov due to tense relations with N. Starostin. In the same year, Rinat Dasaev was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the world.

In 1989, the era of Oleg Romantsev in Spartak began. The young coach, having led the team, immediately won the championship, which no one expected from Spartak at the beginning of the season. The fate of gold was decided in the match with Dynamo Kyiv, where the Spartak team pulled out a victory in the 2nd added minute of the match, thanks to a goal from a free kick by Valery Shmarov. This match is still considered one of the best in the history of Spartak.

In 1990, Spartak took only fifth place, but in the 1990/91 European Champions Cup it reached the ½ final - the highest achievement of the team in Europe during the Soviet era. Along the way, Muscovites beat Napoli, led by Diego Maradona himself, and Real Madrid.

In the last championship of the USSR, the red-whites became the second, having lagged behind their eternal rival tsSKAM by 2 points.

SPARTACUS. RUSSIAN AGE. 10 YEARS OF TRIUMPH.

In 1992, Spartak became the first Champion of Russia, the last winner of the USSR Cup and reached the semifinals of the Cup Winners' Cup, where they lost to the Belgian Antwerp, although they were considered the main contenders for victory in the tournament. Along the way, Liverpool were beaten - 4:2 at home and 2:0 away. Since this season, Andrey Tikhonov, a great football player and a favorite of the Spartak public, began to play in the club.

In the next 10 years, Spartak won 8 more championship titles (only 2 times lower - 3rd place in 1995 and 2002), becoming the most titled Russian club. And in the 1997/98 season, he reached the ½ final of the UEFA Cup.

In the 1995/96 Champions League, Spartak achieved a unique achievement - 6 wins in 6 group stage matches. In the same season, Yegor Titov, the future captain and heir to the great traditions of Spartak football, made his debut in the first team.

BLACK PERIOD

The last time having become the champion of Russia in 2001, Spartak, on the same basis, finished the next season third, combining failed matches with successful ones. Too many obscure foreign players began to appear in the club, who did not even play for the team and disappeared back home after a while. The team was collapsing before our eyes, and the new president Andrey Chervichenko (who took over the club in 2000) became synonymous with the word "failure". During his reign, the team held its most humiliating European campaign. In the 2001/02 Champions League, Spartak lost all 6 matches with a goal difference of 1-18; this result is the “anti-record” of the Champions League.

In 2003 and 2004, Spartak took 10th and 8th places, respectively - this is the worst result of the red-and-whites in Russian history. The only bright spot can be considered the victory in the Russian Cup, in the final of which a victory over Rostov with a score of 1:0 was won. This match was the last for Oleg Romantsev as the head coach of Spartak. He was fired from the club due to a quarrel with Chervichenko.

FAILED REVIVAL ATTEMPT

In 2005, Leonid Fedun became the new owner of the club, under which the team's success went uphill. The return of the Spartak legend Dmitry Alenichev (UEFA Cup winner and winner of the Champions League), silver medals in the championships of 2005, 2006 and 2007, participation in the final of the Cup of Russia-2006 (despite the fact that in the last two there were quite a few a little) and a return to Europe, where the Spartacists entered the spring part of the competition.

However, the policy pursued by the club, especially its transfer component, did not allow and still do not allow the club to take its rightful place in Russia and Europe. The actions of the club's management cause massive violent protests from veterans and fans of the team.

A special place should be given to the events that took place in the summer of 2008.
In the last three seasons, Spartak has consistently changed coaches every year. Alexander Starkov, having won silver in 2005, left his post in 2006. He was replaced by Vladimir Fedotov, who also won silver and reached the final of the Russian Cup, but was fired the following year.
This is where the most "interesting" in the recent history of Spartak begins. In the summer of 2007, Stanislav Cherchesov, a well-known red-and-white goalkeeper, took over as head coach of FC Spartak (Moscow). He led the team to second place in the Russian Championship. The summer of 2008 was marked by the biggest defeat in the Russian history of Spartak - 1:5 at home, and besides, from the most important rival - CSKA. Fans left the stands of the BSA Luzhniki long before the end of the match, which was hard to imagine before.

The misadventures didn't end there. The legend of the Spartak club, Yegor Titov, who gave Spartak 25 years of his life, and the favorite of the public, Maxim Kalinichenko, were expelled from the team. After these events, the most famous association of Spartak fans, Fratria, officially protested to the club's management, demanding the return of the players and the dismissal of Shavlo and Cherchesov.
On August 7, 2008, Sergei Shavlo was the first to resign, and Valery Karpin took over as CEO.

Meanwhile, participating in the third qualifying round of the 2008/2009 Champions League, Spartak were completely defeated in two matches by another principal rival - Dynamo Kyiv, the score speaks for itself - twice 1:4, at home and away. In the interval between these matches, Karpin decided to dismiss Stanislav Cherchesov, who was replaced after a while by the Danish specialist Mikael Laudrup.

Under him, Spartak ended its long, 7 years and 215 days, winless streak against CSKA.

St. Petersburg, May 8 - R-Sport, Taras Barabash. The Moscow football club "Spartak" won the championship of Russia for the tenth time, having won the RFPL in the 2016/17 season.

The previous success of the “red-whites” in the national championship dates back to 2001 - two championship titles were divided among themselves by almost 16 years. After a home win over Tomsk "Tom" (1:0) any result in the match between St. Petersburg "Zenith" and Grozny "Terek" except for the victory of "blue-white-blue" guaranteed the title of the Muscovites. As a result, after the defeat of Zenit (0:1), Massimo Carrera's team won gold medals three rounds before the finish line.

Fedun's dream came true

Spartak is the leader in terms of the number of victories in the championship. At the end of the season, Muscovites became the champions of Russia for the tenth time, and during the Soviet era, the Red-Whites won 12 victories in the national championships. In Soviet times, only Dynamo Kiev was more successful than Muscovites (13 champion titles). Club owner Leonid Fedun won his first trophy at the head of the Moscow club, whose shares he acquired 13 years ago. After the defeat of "Zenith" from "Terek" in St. Petersburg, Fedun answered the call of the correspondent of the agency "R-Sport".

"For a long, long, long time we waited and finally endured! I am very happy for our fans who have endured and believed in the team for so many years. We have the best fans, we have the biggest support! Even for the match against Tomyu when it was full The stadium is, of course, fascinating. The efforts made by the coaching staff, the administration of the club, and myself have finally turned into action. Let's rejoice today!" Fedun said on the phone. The owner of "Spartacus" also stressed that Carrera will remain the head coach. "The credit of trust is full, it's not even a question," Fedun said.

Components of success

For many years, Spartak could not win the Russian championship. Since 2002, Lokomotiv Moscow and Rubin Kazan have become national champions twice, Zenit St. Petersburg four times, and CSKA Moscow six times. The leadership of the “red-whites” could not find a coach who could stop the series of failures and return the championship title, although the team during this time stopped five times a step away from gold awards, being content with silver. The Italian Carrera, who first worked at the headquarters of Dmitry Alenichev, and then replaced him in August 2016, managed to deliver the championship game to Spartak.

“Spartak” in recent years managed to pick up a balanced composition, the role of the first violin in which is assigned to the Dutch midfielder Quincy Promes. The attacking player, thanks to his bright and productive actions, has earned the love of Spartak fans and the respect of true connoisseurs of football. Under Carrera, the game of midfielder Denis Glushakov shone with new colors. Spartak's defense, which in previous years was often spoken of with derision, finally became a monolith and in 13 out of 27 matches the team did not concede goals. Of course, he helped win his own cozy stadium built by Fedun.

The ex-coach of the “red-whites”, now heading the Russian national team, Stanislav Cherchesov noted the role of Fedun in the victory of “Spartak”, calling it one of the key ones. Spartak is objectively the strongest club in Russia this season. They have been consistent throughout the season. And it deservedly ended. I congratulate the players and coaches on this success. I just congratulated Leonid Arnoldovich (Fedun) on his victory. I congratulate all the leaders of Spartak and, first of all, for his patience and for what he does for the team," Cherchesov emphasized.

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and head of the RFU Vitaly Mutko told R-Sport that Spartak performed most evenly in the season and rightfully deserved to win the championship.

“I congratulate Spartak! I believe that this season he deservedly became the champion, because he spent the entire championship more smoothly, without any major disruptions. I congratulate the club management, the coaches, the team, and, of course, the fans "They were together this year, therefore, it seems to me, they achieved such a result. The merit of the fans is huge, because throughout the season they were with the team. This victory is a common merit," Mutko said.

To the delight of the creative intelligentsia

Ever since the days of the USSR, it so happened that the majority of the creative intelligentsia were worried about Spartak. Vyacheslav Tikhonov, Evgeny Morgunov, Alexander Abdulov, Spartak Mishulin, Oleg Yankovsky were rooting for the national team. Until now, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Valentin Gaft, Oleg Tabakov and many other representatives of the theater, cinema and stage are worried about the "red-whites". The famous theater and film actor Mikhail Efremov said that the victory of Spartak made him happy.

“I’ll say this: grande grazie, Massimo. You can also say this: we’ve reached it. The main creator of the championship is the team. It was hard when Oleg Romantsev left Spartak, especially the first few years. hopes, and then it was hard. Cherchesov, Karpin... How many times have they taken second place over the years. Do you remember when Alejandro Dominguez knocked the ball off the "ribbon" in Ramenskoye, and "Zenith" became the champion in 2007? Though (commentator) Gennady Sergeevich Orlov said then that the ball from the ribbon was knocked out by the Korean Kim Dong Jin. I remember this match when Mutko was running around with the cup, "Efremov said.

Actor Alexei Maklakov, in a conversation with a R-Sport correspondent, noted that many of his colleagues, such as Abdulov, could not wait for the championship of their favorite team. “I have not been tired over these 16 years, because hope dies last. I feel sorry for the people who did not live up to this moment, to this championship. Spartak players must understand how many fans were waiting for this event, but unfortunately they did not wait. Mine the expectation was always motivated by that legendary Spartak Oleg Romantsev. These expectations stretched out for a long time," Maklakov stressed.

“Cheering for Spartak is a different pain than the pain of fans of other teams. This is rooting for members of your family. These hopes for the championship were similar to parental hopes,” Maklakov said.

The national team will play in the Champions League

Victory in the championship of Russia guaranteed "Spartak" participation in the group stage of the Champions League. Unlike CSKA and Zenit, which have won the UEFA Cup each time, and the Blue-White-Blues also won the UEFA Super Cup, there are no European titles in the Red-White trophy collection. But Spartak was closer than other Russian clubs to winning the Champions Cup, when in 1991 it reached the semi-finals. Together with Carrera, Spartak will try to surpass or at least repeat this achievement, which will be a huge success. By winning the Russian Championship, the Red-Whites proved that nothing is impossible for them.

A member of the International Olympic Committee Shamil Tarpishchev after the victory of "Spartak" said that due to the support of the fans, "red-white" can move mountains. "It was hard to wait for the championship, but the most impressive thing is that Spartak has not lost its fans over the years, although 16 years have passed and the vast majority of fans are young people. The number of tickets sold for home matches suggests that " Spartak is loved and is the main national team. I believe that no one is even close to compete with Spartak in this regard, ”said Tarpishchev.

"Throughout all these years, Spartak has been waiting, loved, hoped for him, worried about him. The continuity among the fans that still exists is an indicator that millions of people have been waiting for this moment - the championship," the agency's interlocutor added. .
