"Crazy" handles: homemade from a chainsaw. Chainsaw powered bike

It would seem that absolutely incompatible things will not allow you to get a truly original invention, but in practice this assumption has been refuted more than once. In particular, for those who do not know how to make a moped, having only a bicycle and a chainsaw from improvised means, this article will be very informative.

Moped with petrol engine

If you don’t want to fill up your car every day, and riding a bike is too tiring, then a homemade gasoline moped will be the perfect solution to your problem.

What do we need

Nowadays, there are many ready-made kits that include an engine of the required power and other parts needed to remake a bicycle. Buying such a kit is a great option for those who want to become the owner of a bike with a motor, but do not have the opportunity to make fasteners with their own hands or choose a suitable engine.

However, there are situations when, despite the possible difficulties, you want to do all the work yourself. In this case, it is worth starting with the choice of a suitable power unit, the role of which can be played by one of the parts of old and unnecessary household utensils. A lawn mower or a chainsaw are the most suitable donors for a “heart” transplant, but do not forget about the power of each such unit. So, a homemade moped from a bicycle should be equipped with a 2 hp engine. and volume not exceeding 50 cm3. A weaker motor will not be able to move the bike, and you will have to pedal for a while.

In addition to the power plant, you will also need other parts: a battery, pulleys and gears, a transmission belt (it can be replaced with a chain), a drive cable and mounting clamps. Of the tools, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters and other components of an auto mechanic kit will be useful.

We equip the frame

The bicycle frame becomes the main location for all the details and elements of the future moped. In particular, with the help of mounting clamps, the engine, gas tank and battery are attached to it. The most successful option for their location is as follows:the battery is on the top tube, the engine is at the junction of the lower front and seat tube, and the gas tank is right next to the motor.

We make pulleys and install them

The next step towards creating a moped with your own hands is the manufacture of pulleys - special transmission units, through which the motor force will be transmitted to the rear wheel. As necessary materials, you can use small wheels (the size of a CD), supplemented by an external barrier. A prerequisite for creating pulleys is the strength of the parts used and the reliability of their fastening.

Installation of these parts on a bicycle is carried out in the following sequence:

1. The front gear wheel is connected to the motor shaft.

2. The second pulley is attached to the hub of the rear wheel of the bicycle.

3. Then a belt is put on the pulleys, setting the tension force, like a chain.

Note!The belt must hold well on the wheels, since the accuracy of the transmission of force from the engine to the wheel depends on this. In the case when a chain drive is used instead of a belt drive, gears take the place of the pulleys.

Motor connection

After the transmission is installed on the bike, you can proceed to connect the power unit. To do this, its working body is connected to the battery and the "ignition" mechanism is assembled. The motor mounted on the bike is connected to the brake lever, which is also an integral part of the do-it-yourself moped assembly. The tension of the connecting cable must be set so that the motor can be started freely through the handle.

Interesting fact!Worldwide, there are about twice as many bicycles as there are cars and motorcycles. In addition, 50 million new unpowered two-wheelers are produced each year, while conventional cars only add 20 million to their ranks.

Assembling a moped with a gasoline engine

Compared with the previous option, this method will allow you to get a more "advanced" vehicle, which almost completely corresponds to a real moped.

What do we need

To accomplish this task, you will need the gasoline engine itself, spare parts from a real moped (wheels, shock absorbers, brakes and exhaust pipe), a strong, welded bicycle frame and working tools (including a welding machine). Considering that in this option you are going to make a real motorcycle out of a bicycle, its frame must have the appropriate weight and strength. You can try to find a part from a small moped, but if it doesn’t work out, then a “skeleton” from a bicycle in the style of “Stork” or “Yew” will do.

Preparing the frame

Suppose you could not find a ready-made frame from a moped, which means you have to strengthen the bicycle one. To do this, you will need a welding machine and an additional pipe, which is welded onto the existing structure, thereby connecting the seat and steering part. However, it must be said that this is not the only possible way to increase strength, but iron strips can be used instead of a pipe.

Note! If the selected engine is not fully functional, then it should be carefully sorted out, replacing the failed elements. Although you still do not fully understand how a motorcycle can be made from a bike, the good condition of all the elements used should not raise any doubts.

By the way, the power plant requires a separate place, and the best option would be a welded metal platform located at the bottom of the bike frame. The motor and gas tank are attached to it with metal fasteners. It is better to place the battery closer to the steering wheel, and connect the exhaust pipe to the bottom of the motor.

We create torque

The next step on the path to creating an electric bike with your own hands is the organization of a power unit torque transmission system. First you need to remove the pedals and the front star from the bicycle frame. Then sprockets are installed on the rear wheel from the moped and the motor shaft (the star is located on the wheel with a large diameter). After that, the rear wheel is put on the frame and the stars are connected using a chain.

We connect the engine

After completing all the above steps, it remains only to connect the motor correctly. To do this, the clutch and throttle must be connected to the ignition lever by means of drive cables. The tension force is selected so that the motor can immediately start and start spinning the wheel. As soon as you connect the power unit, consider that you have already managed to make a bike on a motor.

It is no secret that an engine-equipped vehicle will move faster than a conventional bicycle, so for safety reasons it is also worth installing lighting devices, and the driver himself must use a helmet, knee pads and special shoes. That's all. Another answer to the question "How to make a motorbike with your own hands?" I'm ready now.

Do you know?Cycling helps keep you in top shape. For example, an hour of cycling contributes to the loss of 600 calories.

We create an electric bike

If you do not like the idea of using a gasoline engine on a bicycle, then you can consider an alternative option to improve this vehicle with electrical equipment.

Benefits of electrical equipment

The emergence of modern electric vehicles has allowed mankind to appreciate all the advantages of this type of transport. An environmentally friendly and economical car almost immediately gained worldwide popularity, easily “telling” motorists about all the privileges of using electric motors. Therefore, it is not surprising that many people were interested in the question “how can you make an electric bike out of a bicycle?”. The electric engine is quieter, does not emit harmful exhaust gases into the atmosphere and does not heat up as much as its gasoline counterpart.

In the case of a homemade electric bike, the role of the engine can be played by a car starter, a screwdriver, or any other power plants available on the farm. Along with the electric motor, an important component of the already converted vehicle is the controller (or regulator), whose task is to accelerate the moped bike under optimal operating conditions of the power plant. To start the movement, a very small current is supplied from the controller to the engine, due to which the motor begins to rotate smoothly. In a braking situation, the controller recovers the driving energy into an electric current that feeds the battery. The battery is almost the same fuel tank, but much more environmentally friendly. Often it consists of a matrix and batteries connected to a specific circuit.

The simplest homemade electric bike includes only a motor and a battery. After mounting the motor, it can be energized using a conventional switch. However, you should also be aware of the impracticality of this approach, because, having a powerful power plant, it is somewhat more difficult to start on such a vehicle, and this can lead to an accident. It is better to use a low power unit that can provide a slow start, even if it does not accelerate to serious values.

Assembly step by step guide

There are quite a few ways to assemble an electric bike, but the easiest way is to connect the drive to the tire. If you had a Soviet-built bike, then you probably came across a dynamo to connect the headlight. By the same principle, the electric motor is connected to the wheel. Of course, when using this method, the drive efficiency will be very small, but this is quite enough to test the vehicle on electric traction.

The second option, how to make a good electric bike with your own hands, involves installing an additional star on the left side of the wheel and mounting the engine with a star on the trunk. If you connect them with a chain, then we get the simplest chain drive. However, as in the previous version, there will be mechanical losses, and the appearance is not particularly attractive.

Therefore, it makes sense to consider the third and most suitable way to convert an ordinary bicycle into an electric bicycle. It involves the use of a special motor-wheel, which allows you to get an electric motor for a bicycle with an excellent aesthetic appearance and high efficiency, which will make it possible to create a unique vehicle with your own hands. The motor-wheel differs from a conventional wheel by the presence of a drive mechanism in the central part. It connects to the control unit via wires and makes it possible to create a front-wheel drive bike, without changing the classic transmission.

If there is a desire and opportunity, you can install two motor-wheels at once. The installation process involves the following steps:

1. A new star and a belt pulley are mounted on the axis of the carriage;

2. Then a shaft with a drive pulley is attached to the seat tube;

3. The pulleys are interconnected with a belt, and through the wires the shaft is connected to a power source;

4. The wires from the battery are pulled to the switch on the steering wheel.

Note! The battery is best placed on the lower front tube of the frame or on the trunk.

Summing up all of the above, it should be noted that it is still possible to assemble an electric bicycle in the DIY style, but for this you need to find all the necessary details, spend a little time and nerves. The very operation of such a vehicle should not be accompanied by any difficulties, of course, except for the surprised looks of passers-by, which, however, is more of a compliment to you.

Interesting to know! When boarding a bicycle, most people approach it from the left side, swinging their right leg, which is explained by the presence of a chain and star on the other side. The habit of placing the chain on the right side came from riding, since the sword, located at the left hip of the rider, made it difficult to land on the right.

At all times, there were craftsmen who could make, it would seem, something truly amazing from ordinary things. It is thanks to such people that the development of science and technology does not stand still, but strides forward by leaps and bounds. In the event that there are no innovative ideas in your head, and the desire to do something with your own hands is haunting, then you can start with existing and proven practices. A homemade chainsaw for such a situation is the best fit.

Today you can find many ways to use a chainsaw for other purposes. There are a lot of things that can be done with this tool, as well as from it. Looking at some devices, I want to exclaim: “How did I not think of this before ?!”

The engine is the main technological link on the basis of which homemade products can be made. We have already learned how to design the following useful devices from a chainsaw:

  • sawmill;
  • means of transportation (land, water, air);
  • cutting tool;
  • portable compact power plants;
  • water pump.

These are just the most common and popular options. More detailed information about some transformations will be presented below.

The simplest upgrade

A sawmill is a homemade chainsaw that does not require much effort, but it can greatly facilitate the process of sawing logs into boards. We can say that in this case the saw in a somewhat modernized state is used for its intended purpose.

It is almost impossible to dissolve a long log on weight. The problem can be solved elementarily. This will require, firstly, a metal frame on which the saw will be rigidly attached. Secondly, the rail track along which the workpiece will be fed.

Moped

This transformation is somewhat different from that described earlier, since the very purpose of the device changes here. The motor of the tool is proposed to be used not for cutting anything, but for moving in space. Of course, homemade products from the Ural chainsaw will by no means be able to compete in power and speed with the motorcycle of the same name, but the moped will turn out to be quite efficient.

The owners are very proud of this vehicle. It's not about the running characteristics of their offspring, but in principle. A moped assembled “on the knee” shows the skill and thriftiness of a person, demonstrates to everyone his

The base of such a vehicle is on the frame of which the motor is mounted from the same ancient chainsaw. Best for energy transfer

Some enthusiasts go a little further in their research and take a mountain bike as the basis for a homemade vehicle. In this case, it will be possible to control the speed of movement. To do this, you just need to equip the moped with a gearbox.

Motor cultivator

You can list for a long time in which areas of activity home-made products from people with land are used in our country, which has led to the fact that such "masterpieces" are quite often used in summer cottages as motor cultivators.

As far as this device is useful in everyday life, it is so easy to assemble it. To do this, you only need a transmission system consisting of a pair of gears. With the help of it, the energy of the engine will be transferred to the drive wheel, which sets the working mechanism in motion. The disadvantage of this design is the small power, which will not be enough to plow virgin soil, but it will be enough for a small well-groomed area.

Power station

A portable power plant capable of providing power to those in the most remote places from civilization is one of the marvels of engineering.

Such a homemade chainsaw can be designed by a person who is at least a little versed in mechanics and electrical engineering. The parts list should look like this:

  • chainsaw;
  • gear reducer;
  • drive belt;
  • metal bar;
  • generator;
  • Remote Control.

snow blower

Since winters in the middle lane are very severe, and there is no shortage of snow, everyone dreams of enlisting such an assistant as a manual snow blower. This is a completely doable task. It's all about the principle of the engine, which is based on the fact that its rotational energy can be used for any purpose.

A chainsaw with a power of 3 kW or more can be converted into a snow blower. The whole trick will only be how to mount the screw assembly. Its blades must be made of a durable, but at the same time sufficiently light and elastic material, such as rubber. Further actions do not differ at all from what was described in other paragraphs. With the help of a chain, the motor is connected through a gear pair to the screw assembly. From a practical point of view, it would be correct to use sledge skids instead of wheels, and take a curved large-diameter water pipe as a snow thrower.

Many things that are no longer of particular value can be given a second life if you show your imagination. If you wish, you can do a lot of useful things from a chainsaw, but given that the motors in these units are characterized by increased power, they are great for making a homemade moped. A moped from a chainsaw can be made in several ways. Such a unit can be made without even having special knowledge and skills in terms of manufacturing such equipment. If you wish, you can make a simple version of a moped by installing a powerful motor from a chainsaw on a regular bike. However, for those who are at least a little versed in technology and have the skills to use a welding machine, it is quite possible to make a high-quality moped from scratch. Considering that there are a lot of variations of mopeds made on the basis of a chainsaw motor, the simplest design should first be considered in detail.

In order to make a reliable moped based on a bicycle and a chainsaw, you should first remove the motor. To remove the chainsaw engine, you need to carefully unwind its block, and then disconnect all the contacts, being careful not to tear off the underwater wires. The power unit will later be mounted under the bicycle frame, so you should purchase a metal clamp in advance, which will ensure a secure fit. If desired, you can make a clamp for mounting the engine from a chainsaw based on a flexible metal tape. However, factory clamps are convenient in that they have special compartments and clamps that allow you to adjust the height of the engine installation. The second point that you should pay special attention to is the bushing. The bushing is a special element that provides tension to the belt that transmits revolutions from the engine to the wheel. The bushing should be fastened with special washers and screws.

The diameter of the bushing is selected individually depending on the diameter of the wheels. If the wheels are oversized, 28" hubs can be used. Inside the bushings there is a special rubberized surface, it will greatly facilitate the movement of the finished moped. Depending on the diameter of the sleeve, a belt is selected. It is very important that the hub is installed as evenly as possible, since only in this case the belt will not fly off the motor and hub while the moped is moving. When installing the hub and motor, you can use a spirit level to make sure that these elements are installed evenly. After all the main elements are installed, you can begin to form the gas and brake systems. The brake system that was present on the bike will have to be removed completely, since when using it with the motor turned on, the cyclist risks doing somersaults, which can result in serious injury.

For the manufacture of a gas and brake system, you can take as a basis the clutch that was previously used on an old moped. If there is no suitable clutch system from the old moped, it is quite possible to make it yourself. As the main elements, you can take pads from a car starter. In addition, you will also need to install a carburetor from a moped, which can be purchased at the car market for an extremely small amount. If the chainsaw engine is equipped with a special lever that directly affects the start of its operation, then you can make a gas system by extending this lever with special cables. The existing lever simply extends and attaches directly to the handlebar. This option is convenient, but the braking distance will be quite long. A complete braking system will not be easy to make. In this case, the finished moped will stop only 5-7 m after the motor is turned off.

The last step is to attach a small gas tank to the frame and run the fuel supply hoses to the engine. Despite the fact that a plastic vessel can also act as a fuel tank, it is still recommended to make it from metal, since only in this case it will be reliable enough and even if it falls it will not break or crack. If you wish, you can use a gas tank from an old moped or make it yourself by welding. It is worth noting that when buying old parts from a moped or other elements, it is very important to clean them with gasoline or another solvent in order to eliminate existing contaminants. After installing all the necessary elements of the future moped, you should test it and only then attach the protective elements for the drive belt. Some owners of such mopeds also attach a small fire extinguisher to the frame, since the whole structure runs on gasoline, which can catch fire in an accident.

Such a small improvement of the bicycle allows you to make a moped that can reach speeds of about 30-40 km / h. It is worth noting that the weight of a person who can ride such a unit should be no more than 100-120 kg. The only negative point of this version of the moped will be extremely slow acceleration, although this disadvantage can hardly be called too significant. The thing is that such units, as a rule, are used by older people, for whom the presence of a motor makes it easier to travel over short distances, for example, to the market or just to visit. The most important advantage of this version of the moped is the absence of an unpleasant smell of gasoline coming from the unit, both during its operation and in a state of inactivity. This version of the moped can be stored even indoors. The obvious disadvantages of such a moped include loud noise from the operation of the motor while riding.

The idea of building a small moped based on this "toy" motor came to me last year, although it also turned out to be realized, I was not completely satisfied ..

The main idea was to create something beautiful, more elegant, no longer like a homemade product, but like a cool purchased moped - a chopper, and this bobber became an ideal for me!

As a basis, I took my last year's creation, by the way, I already wrote about this stool :)

At first, a small sketch was drawn, well, or an instruction, everything was thought out
As you can see in the picture, the frame, namely two profiles, remained, the fork and the lower part of the frame were also from the old version. For bicycle wheels, there was a slight lengthening of the frame, and for greater rigidity, almost the entire top was made from parts from the bike. The tank, headlight, seat - all this is from one more donor, namely the Minsk 103 motorcycle.

The motor was the same at first, and oddly enough, he drove off for almost a year. The gearbox of bicycle stars and chains has been slightly changed.
After the first day of working on the frame, I got this:

I was pleased!
But the appearance, namely welds, multi-colored parts, already old wheels, did not suit me, so it was decided to paint everything beautifully!
For this, 4 bottles of graffiti paint "Montana" and a bottle of matte varnish were bought.
The frame was painted in two colors, I also updated the wheels by painting the rims, spokes and .. rubber :)

Well, after assembly, the moped began to look like this:

Then I threw on the previous motor, gearbox, connected all the hoses, cables, screwed the throttle, and other little things
The engine started almost immediately, the rear chain failed a little, but after I fixed it, I went! And how! the traction was excellent, the speed also exceeded 60 km / h for sure !! Considering that earlier I could only accelerate to 35, now I was driving 2 times faster !!

Approximately in this spirit, I spent a few days, but over time, the motor, alas, died.

And it was replaced by a newer, more reliable engine, which I had in store since the winter. An hour of work, and he took his rightful place:

But again, I ran into the problem that the motor is heating up, and as a result it pulls poorly! For this, the gear ratio of the gearbox was changed.

But then again - overheating after 20 minutes of operation! For this, a very simple, though not the most beautiful, water cooling system was invented. The principle of its operation is simple, namely: A bottle of cold water, from which two hoses go, one up to suck air, and the other down, into a special hole to access the engine head. The second hose has a conventional dripper that sprays cold water, thereby cooling the motor very effectively.

Well, that's where my improvements ended, the moped rides, pleases others =)

P.S.: I apologize for being off-topic, but as far as I know, many modellers will be interested in this :)

Moped device

Frame. The frame of mopeds are most often open. However, some modern sport mopeds have closed frames with the fuel tank located under the saddle in the same way as on light sport bikes.

Suspension. As the front suspension of a moped, a fork with flexible feathers (ends) is used to soften shocks and shocks when the wheel runs over bumps in the road. The fork with feathers is made of stamped steel with a U-shaped section. This method of manufacturing a fork is economical, but due to the small deformation of the feathers, this type of suspension is installed on mopeds that develop low speeds (no more than 30 km / h). Telescopic forks with sliding tubes are also used.
When installing the rear telescopic fork, the rear wheel axle is installed in two pipes sliding one relative to the other. At the same time, a coiled spring absorbs shocks and shocks.

They also use a rear suspension with swing arms and telescopic shock absorbers. This type of suspension was previously used for racing motorcycles, and is currently used on high-end mopeds and sports mopeds. The swing axis of the suspension arms is located near the gearbox, which ensures a constant chain tension.

Engine. Typically, mopeds are equipped with a single-cylinder two-stroke engine with three windows and a double scavenging channel. The motor is cooled by counter airflow or forced by a fan connected to the magdino.
Clutch. Driving a moped can be greatly simplified by installing an automatic clutch, which uses the centrifugal forces that occur during rotation.

The clutch of the Velosolex-1700 moped is very simple. Under the action of the spring, the weights of the centrifugal clutch rest against the brake shoes, the friction linings of which are not completely pressed against the brake drum. In the case of an increase in the number of revolutions of the crankshaft under the action of centrifugal forces, the loads, overcoming the resistance of the spring, diverge and completely press the friction linings of the pads against the drum, as a result of which the clutch transmits torque without slipping. With a decrease in the number of revolutions of the crankshaft, the spring returns the clutch weights to their original position, the forces pressing the brake linings against the drum decrease and the linings begin to slip. At a low number of revolutions of the crankshaft, it is enough to press the brake lever to stop the moped.

The centrifugal clutch of the Peugeot-Santry moped is of a slightly different type. This clutch, as discussed above, connects the engine to the transmission with an increase in the number of revolutions of the crankshaft. If the speed of the moped is less than 5 km / h, then the torque from the powder clutch housing is transmitted to its wave-shaped driven disk and then to the V-belt drive drive pulley with metal powder poured into the housing. With an increase in speed to 5 km / h or more, the friction linings of the driven drum of the centrifugal clutch are also transmitted, which, under the action of the centrifugal forces of the weights, are pressed against the drive drum connected to the engine crankshaft.

Transmission. Mopeds with a small engine are similar in design to bicycles and do not have a gearbox. The speed of their movement is changed by turning the throttle control lever. In cases where the engine power is insufficient to develop the required speed, a moped pedal mechanism is used.

If the moped is a light motorcycle with an extra seat for a passenger, then a two-, three-, and sometimes four-speed gearbox is used.

Some mopeds may have automatic transmissions. For example, the Motobekan moped uses the Mobimatic automatic transmission. In this gearbox, the V-belt drive pulley consists of two moving parts. With an increase in the number of revolutions of the pulley, under the action of the forces of inertia of the balls (weights) installed in the grooves of the pulley, the moving parts approach each other, displacing the trapezoidal belt from the pulley stream, which increases the working diameter of the pulley and the gear ratio of the box. To avoid a constant gear ratio, one of the parts has a detent, the ball of which, under the action of a spring, enters the recess, ensuring the inclusion of the appropriate gear.

Driving wheel drive. For mopeds, the drive wheel drives of the following four types are used:

Driven by a roller that is pressed against the tire of the front drive wheel. The engine of a moped with such a drive is mounted above the wheel, on the front fork.
Drive, consisting of a front belt drive and a rear chain drive connected to the rear drive wheel. In this case, the engine is mounted on the frame, in front or under the pedals.
Driven by a roller that is pressed against the tire of the rear drive wheel. The engine in this case is placed on the frame, under the pedals.
Chain drive. It is usually used on mopeds that have a two- or three-speed gearbox in which the pedal mechanism is built. The first two drives are most widely used on mopeds produced in large series.
Brakes. Mopeds are equipped with brakes of the following designs:

Front and rear brakes acting on the wheel rims. This design of the brakes is used on mopeds intended for use in the city. Their cost is slightly higher than the cost of other types of mopeds;

Front brake acting on the wheel rim and shoe rear brake acting on the brake drum. Such a braking system is used in conventional mopeds;

Front and rear shoe brakes with a large diameter drum with cooling fins. Shoe brakes are installed on top-class sports mopeds.

What to tighten to make the moped go faster?

Tell me, is it possible to somehow make a moped faster, maybe there is a way to improve it in this direction?

You can try to do the following.
1. Remove the limiter from the accelerator.

2. If there is a chain drive on the moped, you need to increase the number of teeth on the driven sprocket, do more compared to how much they cost now.

3. Check the compression in the cylinder, if it is insufficient, change the rings.

4. Clean the candle - soot can accumulate on it. Make a sufficient gap between the electrodes.

5. Adjust the carburetor.

6. Lubricate the chain and bearings.

7. Pump up the wheels.

These actions should make the moped faster.

Step by step instructions on how to make a moped

If you often travel long distances, then you probably thought about equipping it with a motor and thus making a moped. At the same time, it will be possible to ride without physical exertion and at the same time all the advantages of a bicycle will remain - lightness, mobility, no age restrictions.

You will need
- bike;
- gasoline;
- used moped; - pulleys;
- drive belt; - fastening elements; - pipes; - headlight; - electrical wires and switches; - stop signal.

Instruction

1 "> Take an old bike and check it for reliability. Keep in mind that the motor will immediately increase the loads on, so everything should be in perfect order. Lubricate all moving parts, change the chain, rear hub cassette, brakes, tires, derailleur cable and other important details if necessary.

2 Choose a motor for a moped. You can use a motor from an old moped, gasoline. Before dismantling the motor, test it for performance, as well as the noise level (in any case, you will not be able to enjoy the birds singing). In addition, select the engine according to its power - a moped with a 1 hp engine, most likely, will not be able to move on its own, and on the hills you will have to help it with pedals. More powerful engines are more comfortable, but also heavier.

3 Install a driven pulley on the rear wheel to transmit power from the motor to the wheel. To do this, take a regular bicycle rim slightly smaller than your rear wheel (2 inches or 6 cm), fix it well so that it rotates with the wheel.

4 Weld additional tubes and a sheet steel metal stand onto the bicycle frame under the seat to accommodate the engine. Install the gas tank on the top tube of the frame. Weld onto the bike with clamps. If the frame design allows, mount the motor on the back of the bike rack.

5 Connect the motor to the pulley with a drive belt. Carefully inspect the belt before installation - it will have to withstand heavy loads.

6 Given the new features of your old bike, you will most likely need a new seat. Make it out of plywood, lay it with foam rubber and cover it with leatherette using a furniture stapler. Then attach to the moped.

7 Be sure to equip the moped with a headlight in front and brake lights in the back, because with the purchase of a moped you turn into a full-fledged road user.

When putting the scooter for the winter in the driveline gearbox, you need to change the transmission and damping fluid. Since oil and, in principle, all lubricating fluids lose their positive properties over time, it is simply necessary to change the oil in the engine, after flushing the oil system.

If you have done all of the above and have not forgotten about the complete maintenance of the final drive chain, checked the cooling system, replaced the antifreeze, then spring will start well for you. We figured out how to prepare the scooter for "winter hibernation". But in the spring it needs to be brought back to life. To depreserve the scooter, you need to take the following measures: remove all preservative lubricants from the external and internal surfaces; pump up the wheels; change oil; test the performance of all mechanisms and components; check the electrics.
If all mechanisms work, you can go to the road. Well, if on the approach of cold weather you are still too lazy to carry out all conservation manipulations, and, having rolled out the scooter into the spring sun, “made a discovery” that it will not start, then here you will have to work hard. The best solution to this problem, of course, would be a motorcycle service.

But if you decide to “sweat” over this task on your own, then here are some recommendations for you ... First of all, drain all the gasoline from the tank, down to a minimum, and replace it with fresh one. Next, be sure to test the battery, after recharging it. It is highly likely that it is in it that the reason for the unwillingness of the scooter to work lies. If the density of an already charged battery is less than 1.27, then you need to add distilled water. The next step is to check the condition of the spark plugs. This can be done using a special probe.
If the spark plug is defective, replace it with a new one. You can try to revive a non-working candle as follows. With a thin sandpaper, clean the electrodes in the place where the spark should break through, and set the gap recommended by the manufacturer. Now, adhering to some rules, you can try to start the device. Start the scooter with the suction extended, without touching the throttle handle, since the mixture is not enriched when it moves.

Therefore, moving the gas, you will not start the scooter. Under all the above conditions, do not try to start the unit more than three times, as the cylinders will then have to be purged. When you try again, you will need to turn the throttle to failure and hold the starter button for a few seconds. Once the boilers have been purged, try starting the scooter again. But, if after several attempts, you do not succeed, then the last option is to start “from the pusher”.
Well, if this method does not work, then only a motorcycle service will help, where they will carry out the necessary diagnostics and repairs. Summarizing, let's say that in order for your scooter to start up with the start of the season, do not disdain the advice and help of a specialist.

How to store your scooter in winter

Unfortunately, we live in a country where the weather conditions are not very favorable for riding "two-wheelers". The relatively “warm” season in Belarus is at best seven months a year. Therefore, even the most avid motorcycle racers lock their “horses” in a “stall” for the winter. But don't think that you'll just roll your machine into the garage at the end of the season, and in the spring just roll out and ride with the breeze along the melted roads.

Professionals are aware that in winter the scooter is extremely vulnerable to all sorts of "illnesses". And if the scooter is run hard during the winter, this can lead to costly repairs.

In order for your "motor friend" to safely endure the winter period and go out on the spring roads in "good health", consider the following few rules.

The scooter must be stored on special stands, with the wheels hung out. During the winter, the springs in the fork, rear shock absorber (or shock absorbers) should “take a breath”. To rest, it is advisable to lower the tires to a pressure of 0.5 atmospheres.

And in winter you can ride a scooter. We assume that no one wants the battery to “die”. Therefore, it is better to remove it from the scooter or at least disconnect the terminals. After all, scoot devices, even when the ignition is off, consume a certain amount of electricity, so the battery can be discharged during downtime. The best option is to charge the battery before "preservation", and then periodically recharge it.

I would like to believe that you do not even consider the option of storing a scooter in the open, since such a “vulnerable organism” requires a dry and well-heated place (10-15C °), without sudden temperature changes.

At low temperatures, condensation forms in the engine, gas tank and driveline gearbox, which as a result leads to metal corrosion.

If you still can't store your scooter in a heated room in the winter, then at least take care to prevent the most obvious problems.

Preservation of the scooter for the winter. When storing the “two-wheeled friend” in a cold and damp room, condensate, as a rule, enters the cylinders and causes corrosion, which may cause rust on the liners and rings may lie, which can easily lead to an overhaul of the engine . Don't want to let this happen? Then close the exhaust outlets on the mufflers.

The air filter inlet must also be sealed, and if possible it is better to replace it. Don't forget about the outer surfaces of the scooter. From dampness, chrome can swell, aluminum can oxidize, and iron can rust. To avoid this, it is necessary to treat all external surfaces with special means, which are now in abundance in stores. But before doing this, the scooter must be thoroughly washed with detergents and a brush. We process the washed scut with a wax-based polish.

If your "iron horse" will be stored with an empty gas tank, then it will not be superfluous to process the internal surfaces of the carburetor and engine. An easier option is to add fuel stabilizer to gasoline.

Of course, ideally, before wintering, treat (lubricate with a product that protects against cracking and drying) all the details of your unit: rubber bands, anthers, pipes, oil seals, hoses. Do not ignore the electrical part. Check all insulation, lubrication and adjustment of the steering column bearings, clean the brake system, lubricate the seals with silicone, change the brake fluid and process all connectors.

Moped. A couple of years ago, I wanted to check whether it was true that from a chainsaw motor and small wheels it was possible to build a workable moped that fits in the trunk (at that time - BMV518).

I found an excellent motor with a gearbox from a friendship saw, wheels from a Vyatka scooter, a piece of pipe 20x20 and part of a moped frame. It happened in a couple of evenings.

In order for the engine to start and work, I replaced the carburetor with a moped one from d6. The result exceeded all expectations - a simple and reliable toy entertained my friends all summer. In a similar way, you can try to do.

There was an option with a spring suspension of the wheels, but there is no photo.

Last spring, I realized that just repairing a moped was no longer interesting and, wanting to lighten the design, I made some changes.

And now I have traded this already fed-up moped for a finished Malaguti grizzly 12. I want to push the motor more powerfully, we'll see ...
