The famous Russian gymnast Alexei Nemov: biography and sports career. Four-time Olympic champion, gymnast Alexei Nemov

I came home, asked immediately, without preparation: “Mom, what if I do both football and gymnastics?” Mom also answered very quickly: “You will only do one sport, that’s all!” Why did she insist on gymnastics so much? She had and still has a principle in her life - you can’t quit what you started. In general, I returned with my soul and body to gymnastics.

Alexei Nemov is the record holder of the Russian national team in the number of Olympic medals - 12 (four gold, two silver and six bronze).

In addition to four Olympic gold medals, Nemov also won two silver and six bronze medals. And there are countless world and European titles.

Alexei Nemov was born on May 28, 1976 in the Mordovian village of Barashevo. Alexei's childhood cannot be called easy - the mother raised her son alone, and therefore often faced various difficulties. Soon the family moved to Tolyatti. Alexei was not even five years old when his mother first brought him to a sports school; but Lyosha was not taken there - he was not suitable for his age.

A year and a half later, the famous coach Irina Shestakova was recruited to the gymnastic group at the sports school. Visiting kindergartens and asking teachers about their wards, Irina independently selected children for her group. Once she looked into the kindergarten in which Alexei was brought up. While seating the children for dinner, the teacher noticed that Nemov was missing, then the children told her that he had remained in the playroom. It turned out that Lyosha hid here when the others went to wash their hands, and then, left alone, persistently tried to light a cigarette. But, despite such a scandalous situation, the boy was not punished - it was decided to send him to Shestakova's gymnastic group for "re-education". So Nemov ended up in the gymnastics group. Now, from kindergarten, his mother did not take him home, but to training.

A little more than six months, Alexey remained in Shestakova's group, who, going on maternity leave, transferred him to the group of another coach, Pavel Denisov, where the future champion worked out for about a year. According to the coaching records, Alexei studied satisfactorily, had high coordination, but did not have sufficient physical data, he was cocky and impudent. Despite this, even then he was considered a promising athlete. But still, Denisov, who was leading two groups at that time, decided to distribute Nemov and other weak guys into groups of other masters. So, in 1983, the master of sports in gymnastics, Honored Coach of Russia Evgeny Grigorievich Nikolko became Alexei's coach. It was Nikolko who began intensively training with Nemov, conducting two or three workouts a day.

“I was very quick-tempered, and if something didn’t work out for me, I cried, then cursed. When successes appeared, many told me at the moment of shouting: “What are you doing? Who are you to act like this?" But it wasn't that I thought too much of myself. I just always worried about my work. Strongly, to the point of desperation. How else can you express this despair? ... "

Alexey changed several schools, as he spent more time in the gym than in the classroom, and as a result he was expelled "because of the sport." Nemov received his higher education as a coach at the Togliatti branch of the Samara Pedagogical University, graduating in 1999.

“And the brains should always be in business. After all, sport is not only a talent. You will be without brains and doing something on one talent - nothing will come of it. In fact, the coach always said about me: you are not talented, you are capable.

Nemov's coach Evgeny Nikolko:

“There were many accidents in the life of little Lesha Nemov. Coaches could easily walk past him. But when today I analyze the chain of these cases, I am more and more convinced that this boy was destined to become a gymnast. Lesha was really weak, physically unprepared. But on the trampoline he was spinning like a top: dexterous, tenacious, "twisted" ... It came from nature, from God - such "tricks" cannot be taught.

With Lesha, we began to work very intensively. Lessons at school started at 12 o'clock, and every morning the boy came to practice. Then study. At seven in the evening - the second training, after which he went home, did his homework, and in the evening for forty minutes he ran to "jump" on the trampoline ... Leshka lived across the street from the Sports Palace and always resorted to training with pleasure. He is nimble, groovy by nature. I was very afraid that I would expel him from the group. I had to scare him - he was in tears. Lesha strongly held on to gymnastics. ”

“You need to torture yourself in something to get the result. In any job. Limit yourself, do not give vent to emotions. If you don’t press yourself in life, you won’t get anything.”

Evgeny Nikolko about Alexey:

“It’s not easy with Lesha. Because he is a person, and he needs a special approach. You have to adapt to him, sometimes even playing the role of a supposedly weaker one. For example, Lesha does not like it when mistakes are directly pointed out to him. He doesn't like it when he's being teased. Even after successful performances, when I pat him on the shoulder, he is offended: "Evgenyich (this is short for Evgeny Grigorievich), don't." The guy does not tolerate paternal familiarity and in such cases usually distances himself. He rarely talks to me, because he is used to always making decisions himself. Most often, he does not need advice, but support. So it was in the issue with the family, when Lesha decided to marry a girl with a child. Many condemned him for this, and I said: “Lesh, there are no advisers in love. Since you have chosen, it means I support you.”

“His back has been injured since childhood. Lyosha, when he was still small - his mother told me - fell on an iron bucket ... When the sports doctor then examined the child, he said: trouble with his back. Therefore, for Lesha, I even developed a special set of exercises. Before the start, I pay the closest attention to the guy: a good massage, I crumple, I press my back, I work for about twenty minutes. How does he manage to win with such a back?.. He endures. And Lesha’s boarding is almost perfect: he gets up tightly, because this guy has an innate instinct for a gymnast.” - says Evgeny Nikolko.

“You know, I suddenly remembered something - when I was just getting into gymnastics, I received food stamps. And sometimes he exchanged them for money, did not go to eat. After all, my mother and I lived together, so when I began to receive money and brought home these 67 rubles, she always greeted me with the words: “The owner has come!”

Coach Evgeny Nikolko about Alexey:

“Despite his vulnerable nature, the guy quickly became a leader. He also took the place of the leader in the national team - a person who is respected not only for sports success. Yes, he is quick-tempered, hot-tempered, sometimes in his hearts he can send me. For the whole hall, like Kafelnikov on the court ... But I understand where this unbridled rage comes from - fatigue, overload, sores. In such cases, I pretend that I did not hear anything. I understand that the guy just needs to throw out emotions. Sometimes I myself say: "Lesh, swear, you will feel better."

“Journalists often called me “Captain Nemo”. This probably happened after the first Olympic Games - in Atlanta in 1996. I then received the rank of captain. After Sydney 2000 - major. Then he rose in rank. Of course, I did not have army service in the fields and forests. We defended the Motherland, as I say, in tights and overlays, on the platform. I had to shoot from a pistol and a machine gun, jumped with a parachute, but all this was not on duty. ”

"I had to show that our victory was justified from beginning to end. That the team, each of its representatives, becomes the champion, because it cannot be otherwise. We beat the Chinese by a point with something. This was the culmination of the Games for me, the most memorable moment of Atlanta-96. The team took the gold. Nobody let us down, they believed in us, and we survived."

“I am an owl, I go to bed late, I get up late. You open your eyes - one thought is spinning: “That's it, I don't want, I can't, I won't! I'm not going to my first practice! No no no!" Then I hear - the guys rustled, washed, dressed: "Lech, let's go!" And I immediately turn on the high-speed rise: everything is necessary! Everyone went, so you went, without talking.

The performance of Alexei Nemov at the XXVIII Olympic Games (Athens), unfortunately, was overshadowed by a serious scandal. Then, in 2004, Alexei arrived at the games with the rank of leader of the Russian national team. Injured before the competition, but remaining at the same time an absolutely obvious favorite, Nemov demonstrated a high class of performance and the complexity of the program. The performance of the gymnast on the crossbar included difficult elements, including one Ginger fly (swing forward back somersault with turns) and a bunch of three Tkachev flights (swing forward counter-back without somersault). But, despite the incredible difficulty of Alexei's performance, the judges' scores were clearly underestimated (9.725 on average).

The audience, outraged by this behavior of refereeing, supported Nemov standing with applause. At the same time, expressing disagreement with the decision of the judges with incessant whistling, shouting and roaring, the auditorium did not allow the next gymnast to perform his program for 15 minutes. For the first time in the history of gymnastics, the scores were changed (to an average of 9.762), which still deprived Alexei of the medal. The audience stopped protesting only after Nemov's personal request to calm down. After this conflict, the judging staff was partially changed, and the gymnast received an official apology. The rules were also corrected: in addition to evaluating the technique, an assessment of complexity was introduced, which takes into account the links between complex elements and each element separately. This conflict is unprecedented in the history of sports.

“When I approached the crossbar, only one thought was beating: “God, give me the strength to perform with dignity. Just worthy.” Although no one knows how it is worthy. » And when I finished, only one knocked: thank God, without shame.

I remember the feeling - it worked well. He looked at the judge, and he shook his head so regretfully: you won’t see, they say, guy, a medal - nothing like your ears. I understood it right away. And having understood already, he left. As always, he waved his hand to the audience, and on the way he thought: “The end of the road, so everything was fine, and on you.”

“Thoughts were confused, the only thing I understood was that people were behind me. That this judicial disgrace is simply covered by a wave of human anger. Goosebumps ran. "

The gymnast did everything almost perfectly. A small error occurred during the dismount. The whistle of the hall was caused by the score - 9.525 points. Fans from all over the world chanted Nemov's name for ten minutes. A storm of indignation forced the judges to revise the score - it was raised to 9.762. At that time it was the third place. However, this did not suit the audience.

“I look, Paul Hamm is all like a string, he stands for 12 minutes without a warm-up, he is nervous, his coach too, well, I went ... It is important for each person how they see him. Those who say it doesn't matter are lying. They just pretend - they say, I don't care. Sport is a struggle, but you always need to remain a person.”

American Paul Hamm, who spoke next, was forced to ask the Russian athlete to reassure the audience. The audience calmed down only when Nemov applauded them and put his finger to his lips, urging them to keep quiet. Paul Hamm was given 9.812 by the judges, after which the hall again exploded with shouts. However, this did not affect the outcome of the competition - Nemov was in fifth place, Hamm - in second. The gold medalist was the Italian Igor Kassina, the bronze - the Japanese Isao Yoneda.

“I don’t remember what happened around. No one seems to be trying to calm me down or say something in my ear. The coaches were silent, the guys ... I went out to the bus, knelt down, thanked the audience. I didn't know how to express my emotions. They fought for me as best they could. I don't know what I wanted to do, but this is how it turned out. Naive, maybe even stupid.

Alexei Nemov is a "sports" legend, a legend of world gymnastics. For his gentlemanly behavior at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, when the fans protested the judges' assessments, and Nemov calmed the stands, he was awarded the main award of the International Olympic Committee "Fair play" - the Pierre de Coubertin prize in the nomination "For a noble gesture".

His name is listed in the Guinness Book of Records. The successes of the talented Russian gymnast are marked by a number of high awards and titles.

In 1997 he was awarded the Order of Courage.

In 2000, in London, he was awarded the World Sports Awards Oscar as the best athlete on the planet.

In the same year, Alexei Nemov was awarded the military rank of major of the Russian Army, and in 2001 he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree.

Alexey was also awarded the Order of Honor (February 18, 2006) - for a great contribution to the development of physical culture and sports and high sports achievements.

An element is named after him, Nemov (vault. Men). Rondat on the bridge - fly on the horse - forward somersault bent over with a turn of 180.

But viewers love Alexey not only for his sports and state awards. He won their love with his unique warm smile and charm, open heart and sincere attitude towards his fans around the world.

In 2015, Alexei Nemov was awarded another military rank of reserve colonel.

“In gymnastics, nothing is given just like that, each element, like good wine, is infused for a long time. Patience and work must be included immediately.

“When I performed at one time, I imagined that I was going to training, like to the Olympic Games. I tuned in as much as possible. And when the time was right to go to the projectile in front of the crowded stands, I mentally said to myself: “So, Lech, like in training ... You you know everything, you can do everything." In most cases, this scheme worked"

Now Alexei Nemov is the vice-president of the Russian Artistic Gymnastics Federation, as well as the editor-in-chief of the Bolshoy Sport magazine.

“It is strange that everyone always talks only about gold medals. Gold is great, of course. But, to be honest, I wanted to win at least some kind of medal in Athens, for me it seemed like happiness. I understood that both the audience and the head coach Leonid Yakovlevich Arkaev, and everyone else, expected only victory from me. But for me, always - in Atlanta, and in Sydney, and in Athens - the main task was a prize-winning place. Why don't many people consider bronze and silver as medals? There is also a common phrase - for champions there is no other place than the first. Like, did not stand on the main step of the pedestal, consider that you lost. It's not true - it happens. Because any medal is earned by hard work.

Galina Nemova about pregnancy and childbirth

In August 2009, the family of Olympic champion Alexei Nemov and his wife Galina replenished - little Dmitry was born. It was very difficult for the mother of three sons to find time from a busy schedule to tell us about the pregnancy, the birth of a baby, about her feelings and plans for the future. Finally, the interview took place.

Galina, you are the mother of three children. Tell me, did you plan the birth of a third child, or was it an unexpected gift of fate?

Yes, we often thought about it, dreamed, panned in the future. But everything happened unexpectedly, so the third pregnancy can be called a gift of fate.

Please tell us about the day you found out you were pregnant.

We celebrated the New Year in Japan. December 31, I felt unwell. At first, she attributed her poor health to a glass of champagne. But my intuition prompted me to take a pregnancy test. And it turned out to be positive! It was an emotional outburst. We are in a distant country, somehow panic, responsibility, confusion, joy surged at the same time. But happiness prevailed, of course. It turned out to be a very romantic story. After Japan, we flew to rest on about. Bora Bora. It was wonderful, I admired nature, swam a lot.

What lifestyle did you lead during pregnancy? How did you feel? How was your condition different from the two previous pregnancies?

In general, I felt good. But toxicosis in the first half of pregnancy made itself felt, disrupted her usual life. I led a fairly active lifestyle, I ate right. I believe that pregnancy is not a disease. I enjoyed my position, experienced happiness from the upcoming event. Before the birth of the baby, we once again went to rest. I swam a lot again.
Physically, all my pregnancies have been similar. But the third time, the happiness from the upcoming motherhood was expressed more clearly. I thought that this was probably the last time, so I tried to especially feel and remember my state. After all, pregnancy passes quickly, and then you miss it. This time I was in no hurry and calmly waited for our baby to be born.

Did you prepare for childbirth, or as an experienced mother, did you not need it and did you completely rely on your knowledge?

Not specially prepared. I read magazines for expectant mothers: Rody.ru, Our baby, Kangaroo. That was enough. I wanted to learn something new, because now everything is changing rapidly, both medicine and childcare. I tried for myself to note what is worth paying attention to.

How did you take care of yourself during pregnancy? What is your beauty recipe for expectant mothers?

Healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition. A contrast shower, which, by the way, is always useful, not only during pregnancy. And of course, body cream. These measures are necessary so that after childbirth the skin quickly returns its tone.
The care of loved ones is very important. For me, Alexey's attention was indispensable. He helped me a lot, pampered me. Fulfilled wishes like a magician.
I think that when a woman is in a position, the care of a loved one is especially important. No matter what stage your relationship is at, during pregnancy, the expectant mother should be surrounded by attention and affection. Mom and baby need it.

How did the older children react to the news of the addition to the family?

The sons at that time were already old enough, so they clearly understood the situation and were happy. We were looking forward to a happy event. That's really who could not wait - so it's the children. They help me a lot even now. Our baby is like a relay baton - we constantly pass it from hand to hand.
Of course, the middle son Lesha at first did not really want to share his mother with his little brother. There was jealousy. And in this situation, my husband helped me. Alexei spent as much time as possible with his middle son. He gave him maximum attention. Now everything is fine.

Galina, there are signs about buying a dowry for a baby before childbirth. Do you believe in them? Did you shop for the little one beforehand?

Everything should be within reason. We are not among the superstitious people in this matter - we bought everything and prepared it in advance. After all, if you really want to do it, why not? The mood is important here. It seems to me that going to the hospital when everything is ready for the birth of the baby is especially pleasant. I went into the room for a newborn every day, told the baby: "We are waiting for you."
In this matter, everything is very individual. It is important how the mother herself relates to signs. If she believes in it, then nothing needs to be done in advance.

Being a mother of three sons is...

I am a very happy mom. It seems to me that I am a mother to sons. When there was still hope that we might have a girl, some inner voice still suggested, and I myself felt that there would be a son. I love boys very much, which is probably why I have them. But I'm the only girl in the family! The main thing is that our children are healthy and happy. And their happiness depends on their parents.

Based on previous experience, did you have any expectations for the upcoming birth? To what extent do they match reality?

I was worried that the third birth might be unexpected. It worked out. In general, they turned out as I expected. Everything went well and very well. Pain in childbirth is always there, you can’t get anywhere. Here you need to understand that all this passes quickly, and you endure pain for the sake of the baby.
I was very supported by my personal doctor, Alexei, who was present at the birth, the doctors. At that moment, it was especially important for me, and I am very grateful to them.

Are you for the joint stay of mother and baby in the ward after childbirth, or do you think that in the first days the mother needs to rest and gain strength?

I think it's optional. It all depends on the physical capabilities of the young mother. If it is difficult for her to move, walk, then the baby can be given under the supervision of specialists. But I was in the ward with the baby until discharge.

How did you choose the name for the baby?

It is important that the name sounded so that in the future the child would be comfortable with it. Alexei and I thought about this for a very long time, looked at church calendars, consulted. We were told that it is not worth believing in superstitions, the baby should be named the way you want. We had several names in mind - Dmitry, Alexander, Vladimir. When we went to the hospital on the day of birth, it was Apple Spas - a good day for the birth of a baby. And when it turned out that on this day the name day of Alexander and Dmitry, we confirmed our choice, and chose the name Dmitry. All at the last moment.

Like all mothers, you are concerned about the health of your children. Tell us how you learned about cord blood stem cells and why you decided to keep them.

I read magazines and many of them were about stem cells. I think it's very important. If there is a chance to help a child sometime, it should be used. I'm glad medicine has come this far. We saved the cord blood stem cells of our child, and we try not to think about it. We hope they never come in handy. But we are much more comfortable knowing that they are.

Why did you apply to Gemabank?

I have never heard of another bank. On the topic of preserving the stem cells of the umbilical cord blood of a newborn, I talked with my personal doctor. She supported me, said that the 26th maternity hospital works with Gemabank. The opinion of my doctor was important to me. I trust professionals.

Does a young mother have time for herself? What do you do with this time?

I'm trying to recover from childbirth. Only now I felt that there is strength. I'm trying to get in shape. If I have free time, I devote it to sports or sleep. I train with Alexei, he tells me what exercises to do.

Do you plan to give your sons a sister or another brother?

I can't say that I would be against it. At the moment, I think that three boys is enough. I'm happy. But life is unpredictable, and I do not exclude such a possibility. If God willing, then probably. But I'm not ready to do anything special for this. I want to enjoy the children that I already have.

What is your advice to expectant mothers?

Let them put everything on the back burner. Let them enjoy the pregnancy, think about the future baby. I know from my own experience that modern mothers want to do a lot, to go somewhere. And these are traffic jams, nerves. Pregnancy is such a short period of time! Someone, with God's help, it will be several times. And someone is given to experience such a state only once. We must appreciate this moment, enjoy it.

"We are thinking about what to do in this situation, because this can happen to anyone. I want to somehow punish these people. This is a real provocation. They behave so intelligently, while provoking, knocking on the window and asking:" What are you are you doing?" And what - you don’t even understand in this situation. What is it, Alexei also wants to figure it out for himself, ”the Russian News Service quotes the athlete’s wife.

    ON THIS TOPIC

Galina Nemova is sure that it was a provocation. "Aleksey just came out and asked to leave. It was cynically provoked, there is nothing to comment on rudeness. I do not know what kind of group this is, and who allowed them to behave like this, and where the police are looking. These are some ordinary people, they cynically provoke you. Alexey is a decent person, he asked them to move away from the car. He asked them to leave. I walked away at that moment, as Alexei stopped for me to go to the restroom. It took about five or seven minutes. I come - Alexei stumbled, they wrapped his arm, he broke the watch, the car mirror broke," she said.

"At this time, the child was sitting in the car and sobbing. We were driving home with the whole family. Others just drove off, did not contact. Lesha could not drive off, he was waiting for me. Did Aleksey see the video of the fight on the Internet? We don’t even know that they posted something," Galina concluded.

Recall that the incident occurred in the center of Moscow, on Petrovka Street. Representatives of the Stopham organization considered that the Olympic champion illegally stopped in the second row, so they stuck a sticker on the windshield of his foreign car. Nemov got out of the car and got into a skirmish with the activists.

“He was asked to park. There was no reaction. I stuck a harmless sticker on him, said a couple of phrases and left. On the second day, he was standing again on the same street. Nemov tore off the sticker ... The hustle began. He hit me in the face with his palm. I pushed him away from me, tried to put him down, knocked him down, tried to hold him. He is an athlete, he has the same skills, - REN TV quotes Magomed Ismailov. I threw him to the ground and held him, trying to calm him down. It was obvious that the man was furious. He could hit me harder. I tried to protect myself."

Russia, absolute Olympic champion, four-time Olympic champion in the team championship and in certain types of all-around, five-time world champion in certain types of all-around, European champion in the team championship, three-time European champion in certain types of all-around, absolute champion of Russia, four-time champion of Russia in certain types all-around, winner of the USSR Cup in all-around, honorary citizen of the city of Togliatti

Alexei Nemov was born on May 28, 1976 in the village of Barashevo, Mordovian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, from where he soon moved with his parents to the city of Tolyatti.

Alexey began to practice gymnastics from the age of five at a specialized children's and youth school of the Olympic reserve of the Volga Automobile Plant Togliatti, where his mother brought him.

The first coach - I. Shestakova - soon transferred Alyosha to the group to the master of sports in artistic gymnastics, Honored Coach of Russia E.G. Nikolko, with whom Nemov then trained throughout his sports life. The cocky, groovy boy had excellent natural coordination, he spun on the trampoline like a top: dexterous, tenacious - a gymnast from God. Moreover, he lived across the road from the gym and therefore willingly trained twice a day: in the morning - with everyone, and in the evening he came "to jump on the trampoline." At first, I was fascinated by the game, the desire to make a beautiful movement, to master a new exercise, but from the age of eleven I wanted sports growth, and work began in earnest.

The desire to achieve results helped Alexei learn to endure grueling many hours of training, a tough regime of self-restraint. He played first for SC "AvtoVAZ", later - for the Armed Forces (Tolyatti), the sports club of the Ministry of Defense (SC MO).

In 1989, Nemov won the youth championship of the USSR, and the following year he became the winner of the Spartakiad of the USSR student youth in certain types of all-around. He joined the Russian national team, while still a schoolboy, in 1992. And after graduating from a secondary school in the city of Togliatti - in 1993, the first big victory in adult competitions came - Alexei won the National Cup in the all-around. The following year in St. Petersburg, he became a four-time winner of the Goodwill Games.?

The year 1995 was truly successful for Alexei Nemov: in the Japanese city of Sabaya, he became the world champion for the first time - in vaulting, won the title of Russian champion in the same kind of all-around and was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Russia.

At his first Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta (USA), where the Russian team competed on their own for the first time, Alexei Nemov rode as the fifth number of the national team, which did not prevent him, overcoming the pain from injury, “in character”, to become a two-time Olympic champion (in the team championship and in vaults), to win a silver medal in the all-around and three bronze medals (in floor exercises, pommel horse and horizontal bar).

But the main sports feat and triumph awaited him at the XXVII Olympic Games in 2000 in Sydney (Australia), where Nemov became the absolute champion, winning six (!) Of the seven Olympic medals received by the Russian men's team.

Immediately after the end of the Games in Sydney, A. Nemov planned to leave the sport, but, looking back at the bench of the Russian team, he realized that it was too early to leave.

The new Olympic cycle was a crisis for Russian gymnasts - the long-term consequences of the collapse of the USSR affected. For the first time in 50 years, our men's team failed to win a single medal at the 2001 and 2002 world championships, and from the next world championship, held in 2003 in Anaheim (USA), brought only 2 bronze medals. Both of these medals - in exercises on the crossbar and on the uneven bars, were brought to his team by A. Nemov.

Especially memorable for A. Nemov was his third Olympiad in 2004 in Athens, where he played as the leader of the national team. Despite the injury received shortly before the competition, in the finals of the tournament in exercises on the crossbar A. Nemov showed the most difficult combination in the history of gymnastics (6 flights, including a combination of three Tkachev flights and Ginger's flight), allowing only a slight blot on the board, for which usually deducted 0.1 points. “Technology of the XXI century! Ligaments of such complexity are not performed today by any gymnast in the world!” commentators cheered with one voice.

However, in front of millions of viewers, the judges gave Nemov the worst average score at that time - 9.725 points. The indignant hall supported the Russian gymnast with applause for several minutes and protested against judicial injustice, preventing the next participant from starting the exercise, and calmed down only after the athlete himself twice - with gestures and his irresistible, "Gagarin" smile - asked the audience about it. The reaction of the audience for the first time in the history of gymnastics forced the judges to revise the initial score and raise it to 9.762 points, which was still not enough for a medal: A. Nemov was only fifth in the final protocol.

But, without climbing the podium, our athlete won. With his skill, his restrained and dignified reaction to what happened, Alexei Nemov won the love and respect of millions of people in Athens and proved that his name is deservedly inscribed in the history of sports with a special line.

Subsequently, A. Nemov was officially apologized, some judges were removed from judging, and changes were made to the rules of the competition: in addition to grading for technique, the complexity of the exercise began to be evaluated, taking into account the complexity of individual elements and connections between them.

After the Athens Olympics lieutenant colonel Russian army A. Nemov, who defended the honor of his country on the gymnastic platform for 12 years, ended his sports career.

In 1999, Alexei Nemov graduated from the Faculty of Physical Education of the Togliatti branch of the Samara State Pedagogical University. In 2005, he entered the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he studied for two years, but due to the heavy workload, he transferred to the State University of Management, which he successfully graduated from. At the same time, he was looking for himself as an organizer of entertainment events related to sports.

In 2008, based on the successful experience of his first gymnastic shows in 2006 and 2007 and cutting-edge technologies, A. Nemov created a unique, enchanting show "Pulse of Victory" - a kind of excursion into the history of the Olympic Games, a synthesis of gymnastics, circus art, dance and figure skating. One of the main objectives of the show was to popularize gymnastic sports among young people, and it is no coincidence that the pupils of the Youth Sports School, orphanages, and cadet corps made up the majority of the audience of this show.

From early childhood, Alexei's mother gave him to the gymnastics section in a specialized youth sports school in the city of Togliatti at a local automobile plant. His first mentor was Nikolko Evgeny Grigoryevich, Honored Coach of Russia in artistic gymnastics.

Alexei made great strides and was predicted to have a great career in sports, however, in the early stages of his career, he received serious back injuries after falling on an iron bucket during classes, but thanks to the efforts of doctors and his perseverance, he was able to return and make a dizzying career.
