Next year it is planned to hold a large-scale event, participation in which is considered elite, not to mention the victory. We are talking about the Games (popularly called the Summer Olympics 2016). The most anticipated event of the summer of 2016 will take place from 5 to 16 August. There is already official information about where they will be held. The city in sunny Brazil - was chosen as the venue. It should be noted that this is the first precedent in the history of the Olympics, when it will be held in South America. At the very least, this fact makes the Summer Games a unique event.

More than enough time was allotted for the submission of applications for participation. This complex and extremely time-consuming process began back in 2007 (namely, May 16) and ended in September of the same year. Why so long ago, you ask? The answer is simple: the organization of the Olympic Games is a very responsible task that requires significant financial outlays. Several large cities popular among tourists submitted their applications for hosting the Olympics. Namely, Baku (Azerbaijan), Spanish Madrid, the city of gangsters - Chicago (USA), Doha (Qatar), Tokyo (Japan), ancient Prague (Czech Republic), the Brazilian city - Rio de Janeiro, as well as St. Petersburg. But since the Russian Federation was elected as the host of the Winter Games, its application was automatically withdrawn.

Venue selection

Before finally deciding in which city the event will be held, I had to go through almost all the circles of hell in reality. It all started on June 4, 2008, when four favorites were determined. The lucky ones were Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, Chicago and Madrid. The final vote for the venue of the 2016 Olympiad was taken in Denmark (Copenhagen) on October 2, 2009.

The voting process was held according to all the rules of this important procedure, namely through three rounds. In the first round, the results were distributed as follows: Rio de Janeiro received 26 goals, Madrid - 28, Tokyo - 22, Chicago - 18. In the second round, the picture changed somewhat. Rio de Janeiro won the first place with 46 votes, leaving behind Madrid and Tokyo. Chicago received no support. In the final round, second place went to Madrid, and the winner's palm branch went to Rio de Janeiro. The Brazilians were extremely happy, as they were going to this for a long time. After all, Rio de Janeiro sent an application to host the games four times (in 1936, 1940, 2004 and 2012). But he was never among the finalists who participated in the decisive vote.

It was not without difficulties. The Rio Olympics are in jeopardy. In the winter of 2014, the IOC expressed serious concern that the construction of the venues where the Summer Olympics would be held was not invested in the set schedule. And there was a significant threat that they would not be put into operation on time. Therefore, already in May, the IOC began to hold consultations on the transfer of the Olympics to another place. 3 options were considered: London, Glasgow and, oddly enough, Moscow. A little later, it was decided that the final verdict would be made after the end of the world football championship. Taking into account the fact that the world community was against the postponement of the Olympics, the IOC confirmed the information that Rio de Janeiro will be the venue for the next Olympic Games.

Objects of the 2016 Olympics

6 heavenly corners of the city of exotic Brazil were chosen for the Games. The main object is Maracana. Why main? Yes, because it is here that the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as football matches, will be held. The Joao Havelange Olympic Stadium was built specifically for the Games. Competitions in gymnastics, trampolining and basketball matches will be held at the Rio Olympic Arena. Volleyball competitions will be held in a paradise - on the beach of Copacabana and Maracanazinho. Archery competitions will be held at the Sambadrome.

A lot of attention has traditionally been paid to the logo of the 2016 Olympics. It shows the confluence of mountains, sun and sea in the form of a graceful winding line and dancing men. The color scheme was chosen based on the national colors of Brazil: the symbol is made in blue, yellow and green colors. It should be noted that the choice was not easy. Approximately 150 possible options were presented to the attention of the judges.

Talismans for good luck

Also, special attention was focused on the mascots of the Olympics. Traditionally, the names for them were chosen by local residents who expressed their will by voting on the Internet. As a result, the talismans received their own names Vinicius and Tom. They got their names in honor of famous Brazilian musicians. The talismans have the appearance of representatives of the flora and fauna of Brazil (details have not yet been disclosed). It is only known that the image of the Brazilian fauna is represented by a joyful yellow beast, somewhat similar to a cat, and the flora is a large plant with yellow and green leaves on its head. The plans include the idea that these mascots will become the heroes of a television show.

financial question

Also, not so long ago, the approximate cost of the Summer Games 2016 was made public. The total budget was $17 billion. And this is taking into account the fact that half of the objects still need approval. That is, the number will increase significantly. Only 11 billion was spent on infrastructure improvements. According to competent individuals, the cost of games has increased due to inflation. It is worth noting that 60% of the costs were borne by Brazil, and the rest - by private business.

The Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) will be held in 2016 and will be held from 5 to 21 August. This Olympics is notable in that it will be the first Olympic Games to be hosted by South America. And now, among the unconquered continents, not counting Antarctica, only Africa remains, which has never hosted this large-scale event.

How did Rio become the capital?

Eight cities initially competed for the 2016 Olympics, but four finalists were selected for the final vote: Madrid (Spain), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Tokyo (Japan) and Chicago (USA). The choice of the capital took place in Copenhagen (Denmark) at the 121st session of the IOC on October 2, 2009.

Voting took place in the maximum number of rounds - three. And only in the first round there was a tense struggle among the candidate cities, in which Madrid won with a small margin from the rest. The second and third rounds were held with a clear advantage of the Brazilian Rio de Janeiro, which was declared the capital of the XXXI Olympic Games.

Jacques Rogge announces Rio de Janeiro as the host of the 2016 Olympic Games.

Note that this was not the first attempt by Rio to host the Olympics. Rio de Janeiro applied to host the 1936, 1940, 2004 and 2012 Summer Olympics, but was never even included in the final vote.

Terms

The competition will take place during the calendar winter in South America. The temperature during this period ranges from +18 to +25 °C. The time difference between Moscow and Rio de Janeiro is 6 hours. The climate is hot and humid, a bit like.

Competition program

At the same session of the IOC, when Rio became the capital of the Games, it was decided to include in the program of the Olympic Games rugby sevens and golf, which are not new to the Games, but their absence has been measured for many decades. Golf returned to the program after 112 years, and rugby after 92 years. Thus, this did not greatly change the competitive program of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro compared to previous summer ones.

Talismans

The mascots of the Games are two animals representing the flora and fauna of Brazil. One talisman is yellow in color and symbolizes the brightest and most common representatives of the animal world of Brazil - a monkey and a parrot. The second beast has become a collective image of the Brazilian flora; in its features one can recognize both elements of wood and elements of a flower.

Hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics

An application for the right to host this most prestigious sporting event was filed back in 2007. The following countries took part in the competition: Azerbaijan, USA, Spain, Japan, Qatar, Czech Republic and Brazil. Based on the results of the competition, four applicant cities were selected: Madrid, Tokyo, Chicago and Rio de Janeiro. In 2009, the International Olympic Committee held several tours of these cities and made the final decision on where these sports competitions would be held. The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro will be the winning city and host of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Before that, Brazil made several attempts and submitted an application to the International Olympic Committee, but never made it to the final. According to preliminary data, more than 12 thousand athletes from 205 countries of the world will participate in the games. 306 sets of awards will be drawn. At the moment, the budget for the Olympics is $2.95 billion, and this does not take into account the costs that the government has allocated for the development of infrastructure in the places where the competitions will be held. Such a huge amount was the result of accounting for rising inflation, the use of the most advanced technologies and changes in some programs.

It should be noted that the program of the 2016 Olympics itself has not undergone significant changes, this is when compared with the previous Games held in 2012 in London, the capital of Great Britain. It was slightly supplemented with some provisions. For example, some sports have been added: golf, beach soccer, a simplified version of rugby and street basketball. The ongoing 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro will be the first environmentally friendly sporting event in history.

Especially for the Olympics, the RAFAA company from Switzerland built a huge waterfall that runs on solar panels and accumulates solar energy throughout the day. According to the developers, the capacity of this unique structure will be enough to fully provide electricity to the Olympic village and the entire city. The city authorities presented an improved transportation system Bus Rapid Transit. This vehicle will deliver people to various Olympic venues, moving along lanes specially allocated for it and linking the city districts with each other.

Mascots and symbols of the 2016 Olympics

We found out that the 2016 Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro, and now let's talk about what the mascot will be. The 2016 Olympic Games will be held under the auspices of talismans that symbolize the Brazilian flora and fauna: a cat-like yellow animal and a blue-green plant, in which you can see the outlines of an exotic flower and tree. According to the results of the Internet voting, the mascots were named Vinicius and Tom, in honor of the famous Brazilian musicians.

During the development of the visual image of the Olympics, the designers pursued the goal of creating a feeling of a festive and at the same time solemn atmosphere for the guests of Rio de Janeiro. Here you can see the main values and attributes of the city, as well as some of the elements that emphasize its passion and volatility.

In addition, the developed image reflects the places of Brazilian cities, which will host football matches of the Football Championship: Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte. At the end of the Olympic Games, all volunteers will receive exclusive gifts and special certificates.

Ready for the Olympics

Finally, we found out where the 2016 Olympics will be held. But the following should be noted: the International Olympic Committee is of the opinion that Brazil is not quite ready to host the Olympics. This is due to the fact that the organizers do not have enough finances and therefore they do not invest in the deadlines allotted for preparation. IOC officials say funding for all preparations is being delayed. Many sports facilities have not yet been completed, and Rio de Janeiro still lacks the necessary infrastructure and there is a shortage of hotel rooms.

It is also worth noting this fact: Guonabara Bay is heavily polluted and the authorities are now working on cleaning it up, because it is here that sailing, kayaking and canoeing competitions will be held. The organizers assure that by the beginning of the Olympics, all pollution will be eliminated. Information has appeared in the media that the organizers may change the venue for the 2016 Summer Olympics. According to some reports, the International Olympic Committee asked the UK authorities about the possibility of holding the Olympics in London for the second time in a row.

To which the British authorities agreed and assured that London was quite ready to host the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Although there are no official statements about this. Now representatives of the International Olympic Committee are taking a number of decisions to stabilize the situation. They offered the Brazilian authorities their assistance in the implementation of certain activities, as well as their readiness to constantly monitor the preparations for the Games so that they take place at the highest level. According to the situation that has developed at the end of 2015, they do not intend to transfer the Olympic Games to another country, and they will take place, as planned, in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro.
