The payback of the project depends on the selected area where the pond is located, the project is not implemented successfully everywhere. Nikolai Borodin, deputy director of the Fishing Village, advises choosing a place that is not far from the city, no more than half an hour away. “Our complex is generally located 20 minutes from the center, while the corner is quiet, and fishing here is a pleasure,” he says.

Most small pond owners are doing more or less well. However, not all. So, Boris Glovatsky, an entrepreneur from the city of Ostroh, Rivne region, assures that "the reservoir, which he rented some time ago, does not bring profit, and things are going there - no way." One of the reasons is the insolvency of the population, besides theft and other difficulties (fish diseases, the need to spend money on feed). This service is not easy to "promote" in places where there are no businessmen and there are no corporate parties. It all started, as the entrepreneur says, quite rosy: “The pond was rented to check the profitability of the business, one of the tenants had little experience. Theoretical calculations promised at least 1000% profit. If everything worked out, the issue of buying out the land of the water fund would be discussed.” There were two ways of development: to rent a reservoir for fishing (by tickets, etc.) and develop a small recreation center or breed industrial species (carp, silver carp, grass carp) for subsequent sale through the trading network. We chose the second option. I acted as a "money bag". It was invested about 1000 dollars for the purchase of fry and for expenses. Nothing had to be done - the pond with an area of ​​2.7 hectares was completely ready for stocking. The lease agreement was concluded for 10 years without much difficulty at $40 per year (it is still valid). They put up a guard booth, held the light, recruited a staff of guards. They decided to breed carp, silver carp, grass carp and wild fish - crucian carp, perch. I didn’t have to take special care of the fish - you need to feed it, check the acidity of the water and for diseases. The main difficulty is to save the fry from theft, let it grow to a marketable condition (700–1000 g), and most importantly, find where to sell the fish in bulk at the price of interest ($1.3 per 1 kg). In this case, the following costs are obtained: the purchase of fry ($ 2 per 1 kg), feed, payment to watchmen. Everything else was optional, we did not need extra customers, trying to save our goods (for a ticket of 1 dollar you can catch fish for 10 dollars, the bite is crazy due to its high density). There were about 10 similar projects in this area, only one could be called clearly successful. Boris names the large area (28 hectares), good soil structure, the remains of fish from previous owners as the reasons for success. “The rest went our way, but I didn’t hear that someone got rich ... Today I earn in another business from 50 to 300 dollars a day and I agree to do this, if only the pond will give the same amount, with the same amount of time, money and strength. When I have an extra thousand dollars, I know at least 5 ways where to apply it so that she earns at least $ 100 a week without much loss of time and effort, ”Summarizes Boris Glovatsky.

The troubles of another level are associated with the so-called maxi-option, when a real fishing attraction is created on the basis of a reservoir (natural or artificial). A place where you can not only catch fish, but also relax your body and soul. A professional fish farmer takes care of the fish, and the servants organize leisure: cooks, waiters, bathhouse attendants. On the territory of the “Fishing Village on Dubeshna”, in addition to a reservoir of 6 hectares, the coastline of which is equipped with fishing bridges, gazebos and barbecues, a tavern, houses for living, baths, a paintball field, a shooting range, a buggy sports car rental is built. Investments differ from the mini-option by an order of magnitude: 50–70 thousand will be spent only on preparing the platform without additional infrastructure (for paperwork, cleaning the reservoir, purchasing a pump, stocking with fish). Mishchenkov, General Director of the Fishing Village recreation complex at the All-Russian Exhibition Center, estimates the payback time at 5–8 years. In his opinion, this is a normal term for an enterprise with a high level of service, convenient access, and an established reputation. Not every paid pond brings profit all year round, but if it succeeds, the income will be significant.

How are investments distributed? In the first place is the arrangement of the pond. In order for the reservoir to exist for more than one year, the cost of the full range of necessary work should be about $ 8 per 1 sq. km. m. Sturgeon and trout are kept in special cages, some of which are released into the pond, and some are sent to the restaurant. Caught fish are constantly taken into account and stocks are replenished. In the summer months, according to N. Borodin, in rural areas, feed consumption is significantly reduced: sufficient food is provided by bait, which, in turn, is supplied to fishermen for an additional fee.

One kilogram of carp costs 50–80 rubles. A kilogram of trout that has reached 200 g costs about 180 rubles, three times more expensive than carp, but it grows much faster. "Oats" for trout are now as expensive as the fish itself: feed is priced at $ 1 per kg. The main costs of a fish entrepreneur are related to feeding and transporting fish and fry.
